  • Design Shop Shutting Down When Saving

Yesterday my DS Pro Plus V9 (on Windows 7) when saving in PES, HUS, SHV, SEW, JEF and maybe a couple of others suddenly starting giving an error message and shutting down. The message would pop up and say Design Shop had stopped working then it would shut down completely. Did the same thing today.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it is still doing the same thing. In addition it won't open a dst file that it saved yesterday.

Has anyone had this to happen? If so, what did you do about it?

I really need some help if anyone knows about this.

    Thanks,

I have found DS V9 pro plus,
    Worthless for converting design formats.

it rarely opens PES files and almost never saves them.
I usually save as an EXP os Vip if it lets me then convert in other software.

I always save in OFM for editing.
    I mainly use OFM.
But some I digitize for can't. Software at this price point should not have these issues.
I wish melco was not so tight with their investment in the program. They would have more intrest and sales if they would fix some of these basic issues.

When you uninstalled... Did you make sure to delete the directory before reinstalling?

I've always complained about ds for converting files, it's useless and ******. Melco knows bout it nd they "are looking for a solution"
I had to buy another software to batch convert my files, embird, you can buy it online for 150 I think, that is the only reason why I bought it. Works great

John, I did not delete the directory. I will do all that again and see if that helps when I reinstall.

I must get this worked out somehow because I need to save in other formats.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will let you know if it helps.

You can down load Wilcom true sizer for free and it will convert for you. with no issue.
              If you still have problems.

But Wilcom truesizer you have to convert files one by one. with Embird you can do batch convert and even zip the files which is what both Marcelle and I need since we sell embroidery designs. I used to convert one by one....such a pain!!!
                How are you doing Greenwing?

I am using Wilcom and Ambassador as a temporary fix. They both have some file format issues that is also hampering me. Ambassador is not updated enough to handle the new hoop sizes for formats like jef and sew. Wilcom seems to be better for jef and sew. Don't remember which just now but one of them won't save as shv.

I recently purchased Embird thinking I could use it for saving in other formats but am having trouble because I just don't know enough about the program. I can't really tell if it is retaining all my density settings properly. I have a question posted in one of the Embird forums to try to clarify that and am waiting to hear back. Embird will be my answer if I can just learn enough about it to use it for what I need.

For me Embird is awful to learn. I seem to have a mental block about it. Perhaps if I had started with it I would have been better off. I see designs created with Embird that are really great and many people swear by it.

In Embird it is possible to open a file and then save it in all the formats you want at one time just by putting a check mark by the boxes beside the format types. That would be great. I really like the batch converter in DS Pro Plus but Embird I think would be the next best thing.

Haven't had time yet today to do a clean reinstall but hope to by tonight.

Thanks all of you. This is truly the best of the best for embroidery users lists.

If Design Shop was an updated to the lastest version (9.00.099) and you uninstalled it and then reinstalled Design Shop and did not do the update you will have issues with DS not opening up some files becasue they were saved using the updated software. If you do the update then you will be able to reopen the files you saved. I hope this makes sense.

I have 2 CD's for the software. I emailed Melco Tech Support to make sure which one is the latest.

                      Release 101909.0 PN 34026

I think the bottom one is supposed to be for Windows 7.

Do you mean updating using the option within DS to 'Check For Updates'?

                      Thank you.

Marcelle and Jazmin, If you are just wanting to convert in batches and create zip files, look into BuzzTools. Easy to learn and use. And they have a 21 day free trial. http://www.buzztools.com/buzztoolsplus_v4.asp

I have sent Buzz tools OFM files, with the request that they add it in to the file types they can convert from & to.
They said they are going to look in to it.

I have carried Buzz software for about 14 years it is great...

Need more advice. I restored my computer back to a state and date that DS was working correctly. I then did a clean reinstall of DS and it will now save a PES file but shuts down immediately if I try to open a DST file. Haven't checked other formats yet so there may be more problems. I know there must be something I am missing here. I have a lot of DST files.

Melco tech support still has not answered my email.

Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try while waiting for Melco.

Edna and Jerome I did download Buzz Tools and it seems to work fine for conversion. I just stitched out a design in PES format and it stitched perfectly. At least I can use Buzz Tools to convert for now. Thank you both for mentioning that software. Now if DS would just work as well as Buzz Tools.
