I use some folded up backing and tape it to the arm on my machine just behind the needle plate. This lifts the clamping system up off the arm a little so the edge of the clamp hoop doesn't get caught on the edge of the needle plate and cause problems. I use a raised needle plate to keep from flagging. This wouldn't work on an XT too well but with the round arm I don't see the clamp getting caught up on the arm anyways. I use the clamping system mostly on my EMT machines but this trick would work on the Reds as well.
