I am getting non-stop thread breaks. I called tech support and they told me to make sure there wasn't any thread wrapped around any rollers behind the thread carriage. I did that. I get one thread break after another. I can't even get 5 stitches before it's breaking. I have changed thread thickness, thread feeds, pulled 3 feet of thread out and cut it off so I can have good thread. . . everything I know and have read to check. It doesn't matter if I'm sewing on a clamp, WACF or tubular hoop. The last thing I did before I got so frustrated (after working all day fighting this) I turned my machine off, I was stitching letters which were suppose to be blue, it would begin with my blue thread for a couple of stitches but then all I could see on the top or bottome of my fabric was white. Where did the blue go???? I'm ready to throw in the towel. Please someone help. I have got so much work to get done pronto as our local baseball league starts this Saturday. I really need to be productive and am not succeeding. I am grateful for any suggestions.

Hey Stitch
Deep breath. Can you give us all some background? Did you go to training? How long have you had the machine. Have things ever worked for you? Since it's your first post, we need some history here.
I am guessing you already checked the presser foot and the bobin tension?
What is your material thickness set at? Have you changed any other settings in the software. Do you have minimum thickness set? What kind of material are you sewing on?
The more detail you provide, the better the chance the experts on the lists can help you....John Yaglenski

OK. No, I have not been to training. I have had the machine since Christmas. Got little kids and just gotta get time scheduled to go to Atlanta. I have been on this machine nonstop since I got it. I feel like I have learned so much and I know I have a wealth of information yet to be learned. I have read and done everything by trial and error. I have stitched a lot of things, especially in the last 2 months with great success. Now, all of a sudden, these breaks and I am running out of time so quickly. I'm trying not to panic ;oP
I have checked and changed the presser foot. I have made sure that when I hold the bobbin up it falls approximately 2-4 inches. My materal thickness is set at 3. I am stitches on the front of visors which is made of dazzle material. I have it hooped on my WACF. When I have had no success because of continuous thread breaks for hours. I switches to working on others jobs which were some thin cotton/poly shirts. I tried over and over to stitch out the design which only consisted of letters. No pictures, logos, nothing. I tried to stitch this out on a test run on broadcloth. Again breaks over and over. And then the last thing before turning the machine off and saying a few choice words, the machine was feeding the 5552 thread in which is blue but everything that was coming out on the broadcloth was white, both on top and bottom. . . where did the blue go???? Thank you so much for replying and for helping me. I have all these teams things here. My machine has been down since Thursday with Melco being closed and not being able to call tech support. I called first thing today and still haven't gotten anything accomplished today. My father-in-law is dying and could go any day. I need so badly to get these items completed in the event of his death. Can you tell I'm freakin' out about right now. Not really, just don't want to let anyone down with my new business.
Thanks again for any assistance. If you want to know anything, just ask and I'll send you the info.

My machine is an XT. And, yes, I did maintenance last night.
A big thank you to Dorothy who stitched my design and then we troubleshot for an hour together over the phone. Thank you so much for your time Dorothy!!
However, we were unable to get my problem solved after making numerous changes/adjustments. I am getting mostly all bobbin thread on the top and no top thread on my design. And, one rotten thread break after another. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open! I am in the Central time zone and plan on calling Melco promptly when they open.
As a side note, I got some popping when my needle carriage moves from left to right like the little wheels are catching as they move on the back side of the carriage.
Please help, if you can ;o)
Thanks again Dorothy!!

Alright well did u find your machine messed up after you did the maintenance. Ill give u a trick on how to reset the machine 9 out of 10 times it works.
make sure your machine isnt sewing haha
Close amaya os and turn off the machine unplug it too.
plug everything back in turn Only the computer on.
go to
my computer C drive, program files, these files may say hidden un hide them. Youll see amaya folder click on it and go inside the folder.
Find jobs and machines DELETE JOBS AND MACHINES
Dont delete anything else.
close the folder
open up amaya os wait for it to fully boot Dont turn on the machine yet.
in the amaya os the top of your screen menu go to tools- options- ethernet check the forced download box and hit apply and ok.
power up the machine if u have more than one machine power the messed one up first.
if you have already tried that. I suggest you run the machine on standard and see if the threads break.
let me know if that helped..
hope it works..

First thought. Your bobbin is too loose, get it to drop 1 inch when you bounce it slightly. I would never sew a visor (cap) at a 3 material thickness. Go to an 8 or set your Auto Actifeed to a 7 minimum.Herb<br />Royal Embroidery

Hi Ezee. Thanks for the steps. I did them all and am still have multiple thread breaks.
Herb. I tightened my bobbin a bit. I have now stopped even trying caps and have gone to a flat hooped item. I will bumped up the actifeed to 7 if I ever get this matter straight and get to do caps.
As of right now I have done everything I know and with the help of many of you a lot of stuff I didn't know. Still get about 15 stitches done and then it breaks.
I'm trying to hang on. Any more suggestions????

When I've had similar problems, it usually means there's something caught or my timing is off. I'd check my hook and trimmer area thoroughly for that tiny little thread that's caught up where you least expect it.
Then I'd check timing.

You may have already tried this, but a similar occurrence happened to me and this was my solution . . . I was sewing a large monogram (7 inches) and the first test run ran great. No breaks. The second one, I experienced breaks every few stitches and it drove me crazy. I changed my needle up to an 80/12 and no thread breaks. I normally use a 75/11 universal, but this particular set of variables worked best with a larger eye needle.

Hats were the worst problem we had for a couple years, and NO service tech we knew of in our area. Had pretty much given up on ever doing hats for profit until we bought the extended warranty for big red...and surprise surprise...there WAS a Melco service rep less than an hour away...no one in Melco ever admitted it or told HIM we were having problems. He came up to do the yearly 'checkup' and I told him about hat problems so he installed the WACF frame (we had gotten rid of the newer hat hoops as being useless) and I set up for the last hat job we had done (I had been sending them out because we couldn't do more than 1 an hour!) He spotted the problem immediately and slowed the machine down around 400-500 and told me to watch....as the hat and hoop rotated, the BRIM of the hat would rub on the back of the needle head, and you could literally see it being pushed down as the design/sew area got closer to the brim area. As the brim flexed, the center of the hat panel would MOVE a quarter inch or so towards the back of the machine! Then snap crackle pop...thread break, needle break, design shift...garbage hat.
For temporary fix, he showed me how to 'flatten' the hat brim and bend it down, like punkers wear it to cover their eyes...for permanent fix, he told me to get the hat brim holddown attachment-a setup of mini 'bungee cords' that hold the brim tightly down and away from the needle housing.
It worked! I think the 'fix it' part is less than $15 per hoop (we have 3 of the WACF hoops) so hats are no longer a problem. I still have yet to do a single visor, not one-ever! Because no matter how I hoop it-I have less than 1" of available 'panel' to sew on! But for hats, I do everything from unstructured low profile to fully structured high profile flexfits.
