First let me say, the reason I contacted the Amaya Users Group was that I wanted to know if anyone else was having similar problems, or was it just me. Then I would know what direction to go in.

I wasn't just complaining. From day ONE I have had technical problems without anything else on the Dell computer but the OS and DS. In fact, during our on site training, our instructor told me that if the glitches hadn't occurred right in front of her, she wouldn't have believed it. At that time we were getting multiple images, and scrolling didn't seem to fix ANYTHING. We wasted a huge amount of time on 'down time' just dealing with the Amaya Software problems.

In DS: the screen freezes, or only partial images show up, or no images until the screen is collapsed and re-opened or the scroll bar is exercised up and down, the 3D doesn't work 1/2 the time, or sometimes when the screen in DS is collapsed and re-opened the outside framework of DS opens with a hole showing through to the desktop picture in place of the design.

In OS: sometimes the colors are selected but don't take, the trim on the machine works 80% of the time, or will work 5 out of 10 times during the same design on the same material.

All the computer components installed were recommended from Melco BEFORE purchasing and not afterwards. I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be a conflict and that our computer was up to the task of providing enough memory and speed for these sort of problems not to occur.

We added Corel X3 2 months after, and the DLL problem was corrected by Melco Tech over the phone. Of course there was nothing in our manual that suggested there COULD be a problem, even though Corel was pushed by both our instructor and our sales person.

But we are getting tired of the answers to be, "just uninstall and reinstall the software", especially since the parameters we have set up for embroidery are now lost and we start from square one.....again!

Hope that clarifies it for all of you. This is a new machine, a new computer, and too much invested in time and money for this to occur.

So, allow me to clarify. The item you just posted - that is what the first post should have been. That's the kind of info we on the list need in order to help - that is why the list was started in the first place.

As an IT Professional, I need to know a few things.

      1) What operating system are you using - XP or Vista?
      2) How much ram do you have?
      3) Are you using Dell's onboard video card or did you upgrade? Have you checked for updated drivers on Dell's site?
      4) Are you using a widescreen monitor?
      5) Are you running your monitor at the MFGR's recommended resolution? LCD's are built to display in one reslution well only. I am assuming because it's new, you have an LCD. If you have a CRT, what resolution are you running at?
      6) What version and level of Design Shop and What version of AOS are you using?

To me, the display issues seem video card related. Which means, Dell could have an updated driver for it or even a bios update. You need to check on that. Even out of the factory, we get shipped items all the time that have outdated drivers or old bios on them.

If you are using a widescreen monitor, don't. From what I understand, DS/AOS isn't going to display correctly.

Trimmer wise, definately talk to someone at melco. Not sure about the colors taking.

        Hi Maria,

I had similar problems to what you described above and here are my findings/solutions for my machine:

If you have automated updates activated on Corel X3, it will potentially overwrite the DLL problem you initially saw and fixed. I have personally experienced this overwrite with an update and turned off the autoupdate. Since then, i have had no problems.

I also experienced this issue when I installed Corel DRAWings X3. Turned the updates on that off also.

        Just a thought.

I also get a little frustrated from time to time with computer and machine problems. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the computer is causig the machine problem (which has happened). Fortunatly I have 8 machines so if one is having a problem it's not going to shut me down. If you only have one machine and it's not working it is much more stressful (I have been there too).

I too wish the sales person would have told me certain things before I purchased 8 new machines. Like the 400 spools of thread I had in stock would not work very well on the AMAYA. And that after 90 days I would have to pay for a trip charge for "warranty" calls.

I don't miss my conventional machines at all. Sure they were workhorses and were easy to diagnose and fix but the production was lacking.

The next time you think you want to trade for a Tajima, slow your AMAYA down to 650SPM and listen to the sound of all the money you will not be making.

And the line of the week goes to Steve I

The next time you think you want to trade for a Tajima, slow your AMAYA down to 650SPM and listen to the sound of all the money you will not be making.
            That made me chuckle.
