  • Loud Thunking Noise

    Hi guys,

I wasn't paying attention after I pulled my hoop out to trim some threads and did not push and lock the hoop back into the hoop arms. I started the machine and the pressure foot came down right on top of the plastic mighty hoop frame. Needle #14 was bent behind the pressure foot but the pressure foot looked okay.

I turned the machine off and on, locked the hoop in the arms, changed the needle, reset the design, centered the hoop, did a trace and then started the stitching again.

The Amaya is stitching okay but now I get this loud thunking noise behind the needle case. Can anyone please tell me what I need to check to see what is wrong? I don't want to run it in case I damage it some more.

    Thanks!

Guess no one can help me. Can anyone recommend a good Amaya tech in the San Diego area?

    Thanks!

      Ed,

It is difficult to diagnois what you may have done at this point.

It may be that the needlebar needle clamp hit the hoop and pushed the needlebar up thru the holding clamp just enough that the top of the needlebar needle clamp is banging against the bottom of the needlecase.

The presserfoot spring may be broken or damaged.

      The reciprocator may be damaged.

The main drive gear for the takeup levers may have been shifted enough that it is tapping against the upper base casting.

You may have a bent needlebar.

There are others, but you probably get the idea.......

Here is a copy and paste of Brad Costan's info from Melco University......

          Hi Rod,

Thanks for recommending Brad Costan. He is great! I learned a lot from him. He is the first technician that has seen my Amaya XT since I bought it almost 2 years ago. Fortunately, the problem was that the timing of the gear behind the right side of the needle case got out of sync. You probably know what that is. Whew! I thought I had hundreds of dollars of damage. Anyway, Brad retimed that gear and the bobbin and it sounds better than it did when it was new. He is amazing.

          Thanks again!
