Anyone have the contact info for a service tech near Pittsburgh PA?

If no-one else posts, call Melco (I know) 1-877-840-5829.

I checked the service website and I found a list of technicians...so I found one in my area and I tried to email him...invalid email address...so I tried calling him at the phone number listed on the website and it's now not the tech's phone number. So, I emailed Melco and asked them for help in locating a tech in my area and they returned my email which said to contact the same guy at the same phone number and at the same email address. Their email also told me if that contact info didn't work, that I should contact Melco and gave me an 800- number....so, I tried to contact Meldo at their number and got their voice mail where I had to leave a message. Their voice mail said someone would call me back in 24 hours...it's been at least 36 hours and nothing back from them...anyone else have any ideas? The machine is making a very loud noise when it is embroidering...is that normal? thanks in advance for your help!

You might try Mymelcoworld. Someone on there may be able to help if this list doesn't get you assistance.

          Jodi,

Loud noise????? Not much to go on here. XT or Big Red? How long have you had the machine? Did it always have this noise? What does it sound like. Where does it sound like it is coming from?

What size hoop? Presser foot height? What kind of material are you sewing on. What Version of software? The list goes on........without info, a diagnois cannot be made....

If it's just a loud noise and the machine is sewing fine, then yes, that's normal. I use earplugs when mine are running. But Rod is correct, there may be more questions that need answering here.

Just adding a couple drops of extra oil to the needlerods behind the magnetic panel can cut the noise in half...and biggest noise is caused by leaving the same color threads on the same needles all the time (like white, black, red, etc.) because the overuse of that needle dries out the oil pads on the needle shaft-increasing the noise. Each time you end a large job, move the thread spools to a different needle on the machine and spread them around.

I guess I did leave out a few details. I just purchased my XT machine used from someone else who shipped it to me. I am not new to embroidery, just new to the Amaya machine....but my experience with embroidery has been on my two Babylock EMP8 machines. I have owned this Amaya machine for less than 1 month and compared to my other machines, this one is twice as loud and I am not sure if that is normal...I can't say whether it was always that way.

In my test runs of the machine, I was using needle numbers 1 & 2 and I was using the jacket back hoop with a t-shirt. I guess I wanted to have plenty of area to test, that's why I chose the jacket back. The software that came with the machine is the Design Shop Lite. I went through the 200000 stitch maintenance step by step as described in the tutorials and oiled and greased every spot in which it told me to oil....including behind the magnetic panel. It sounds like the loudness is coming from the back of the machine where the motor is...it's not really a clicking noise, it's just overall really loud and the machine vibrates so much that it knocked out the end caps from the sides of channel where the needles slide back and forth on. I can't remember the name of this at the moment. Anyway in comparison to the other two machines I have, this one seems a lot louder...granted it is a better machine than the other two so I guess it should be louder, but I am not sure if I shouldn't have a tech come and service it before I start using it heavily. The previous owner said it was serviced earlier this year (about 8 months ago) but it hasn't been used much since. It's a 2007 model so it's not that old, but it did come to me covered in dust and cob webs. I do appreciate your taking the time to read this and any input any of you long time users can offer! Thanks so much, Jodi

                  Jodi,

No, the machine should not be extremely loud. It should sound like a sewing machine for the most part. The large jacket back hoop can vibrate up and down, banging against the sewing arm, causing a lot of racket.

You have several "stepper motors" throughout the machine and 3 large motors that individually drive the X,Y and Z axis functions that are located in the rear of the machine. The stepper motors drive the color change, trimmers, etc...

I would go into Maintanence, Timers and go thru every one of the lubrication steps. If the machine came from a high heat/humididy environment as Pittsburgh can be in the summer or like most places back East, for that matter and as you indicated...."but the machine did come to me in dust and cobwebs". This is a RED FLAG. The oil and grease may have dried up out of the machine and parts are running dry....which is bad.

There is absolutely no way that the machine should be vibrating to the point of knocking off the dust covers(end caps). The X-axis carriage has 4 metal rollers that run on metal rods located in the panograph assembly. If these go dry, the machine could vibrate as you have described.

At this point and being you are so new to the machine, I would defintely have a "certified Amaya Tech" go completely thru the machine. I have seen many machines that were just "recently" serviced and with further research found out the machine had hardly been touched and definitely was not by a certified tech......

Before going any further, I would do a "complete" lubrication maintenance procedure on this machine....and...I do mean "complete".....

Jodi - If you can get a tech out, I would have him go over it well. If the machine came to you in cobwebs and dust, I would want to make sure that the "innards" aren't the same. I have never had a problem with vibrations such as your description on any of the Amayas that I have owned or currently own (traded up 2004 red Amayas for my current 2006 XTs).

Hi Jodi, I highly recommend the Melco maintenance agreement. It's peace of mind that should anything ever go wrong with your machines, they'll send over a certified tech quickly and most parts like motors and computer boards will be covered.

Try calling Hugo. He is near Frederick, MD. About 3 hours from you. 301-471-3157. If he doesn't answer, leave a message. Cell phones are hard to hear when machines are running.

Thank you everyone...I did go into maintenance and do all the lube and grease steps, but I am afraid a certified tech might need to do some maintenance in other parts of the machine that maintenance instructions don't tell anyone to do. I would be interested in a maintenance agreement with Melco, I will try to call them again on Monday...and I will try to call Hugo too. Thanks again! Jodi

Horrible noise, still sewing fine. My guess would be loose cables. I would still have it checked by a tech.
