I have struggled for a long time about the best way to rip out stitches. Seam rippers are kinda dull, even the best ones. Razor blades are too large to give the precision needed to hit just the bobbin threads.
I found a pointed end scalpel. BARELY touching it to the bobbin threads produces wonderous, immediate results. You'll still need a seam ripper for the walking stitches in the underlays, and you'll have to be careful where you touch the scalpel. I am here to tell you it does a heck of a job. Super fast, super clean, no garment distortion, and about $2 each. I am hooked.
