    Terry,
You may as well make the decision to change out the remaining black rollers with the yellow ones....besides the yellow roller system is superior to the black ones anyway. The black ones had a much softer rubber coating that was susceptible to grooving, thread slits and in general, overall wear was not all that great. They needed to be changed out quite often...

When changing to the yellow style rollers, on the first purchase, a kit must be purchased, as the red pinch rollers, the covers and the yellow rollers must all be replaced. Parts for the yellow roller system and the black ones are not interchangable. I have yet to find anyone that needed to replace any of the red/yellow rollers unless they failed to properly lubricate them.

If you start experiencing lots of threads breaks on the black roller Amaya, consider them immediately as suspect for the cause.

I use the Magna-Core bobbins. Got them as a sample with my machine, liked them, so have just continued to use them. You can use the bobbin down to the last inch with the Magna-Core. They are a little more expensive than other types because you get only 100 in a box.

Then, once I ordered the wrong thing - Fil-Tec Clear-Glide. These have clear plastic sides and contain 125 yd. The Magna-Core has 135 yds. I haven't had any trouble with these either.

When you use the Magna Core, the little spring inside the bobbin holder should be taken out, because the magnet acts as the spring - so to speak.

Also, I use Marathon thread. I live in Hawaii and get it from New Jersey. I pay about the same for a 5000 yd cone as I would pay down at my local store for the 1000 yd spool! But the freight kills me. So, when I go to LA this month, I'll order a bunch of thread and have it sent to my hotel, so I can take it home with me!

When I first got my machine, I had a lot of Rayon threads. Tons of thread breaks! Finally I did my own thread test. Took a length of Rayon between my hands and pulled steadily until it broke. Then did the same with Poly. Wow! What a difference! All the rayon is now in a box, out of the way, so I don't use it by mistake! There is a huge difference between rayon and poly!!!

The best machine operators are the "do-it-yourselfers". They are the ones that will learn the quickest and understand the machine the best. You will have those Amaya's just a humming [especially with the embroidery experience you already have].

As far as bobbins go .... the smoothest, most consistent running bobbins we found are the NEB's [plastic side], Magna-Glides [no sides] and the Coats Tru-Sew [paper sides]. Our machine doesn't really care if the bobbin is plastic, paper or no sides .... all it wants is a good bobbin, so we interchange bobbin types freely. Now having said that, some machines may be a little more particular about the type of bobbin used and sometimes one type of bobbin may work better in a particular machine.

As you already know, proper thread tension always starts with the bobbin .... so a well adjusted, smooth, consistent running bobbin thread is important.

        Happy stitching.

Like you, there are many others who are very satisfied with the Generations software ... and obviously your Amaya likes it too.

It is important that a digitizer have a full understanding of embroidery basics and knows how to get the most out of whatever brand / level of software they happen to be using. You obviously have done that ... so give yourself a lot of the credit to the quality of stitchout produced.

I personally don't believe there is one "best" embroidery software .... instead, I think there are a number of very good programs out there and it is up to each of us to find what is best for our own particular needs and comfort of use. For some that will be Generations, others may prefer something else like DesignShop, Sierra, Embird, Wilcom, etc.

More important than brand of software will be the digitizers knowledge, skill and experience.

Have a great day and enjoy your Generations software.

We certainly agree with Bob regarding the NEB bobbins. The cardboard-sided bobbins seem to lose their tension easily and we have never experienced that with the NEBs.

              Terry,

I buy my bobbins at Melco Mart. I use Coats Trusew Poly Mt, Style L, 132 yards. They are also made in USA. I don't have any problems with these bobbins.

              Good luck,
              Maggie

                Terry,

If you were confused before, how confused are you after 19 replies to your post. I agree that your problem could be stemming from any number of adjustments or digitizing problems. Having said that, I have had the best luck with Isacord thread. I ran Mederia and Arc poly on my conventional machines and stocked up on them before my 8 AMAYA's were delivered just to find out the neither one of them worked very well. I did side by side comparisons with the Isacord, Arc and Mederia thread. Same design, same speed, new machines and several different machines. The isacord thread outperformed the other two hands down. If I slow down to 650SPM the Arc and Mederia work great. If I wanted to sew at 650SPM I would have kept my conventional machines. To answer the second part of your question, I use Coats bobbins, I tried some generic ones and they didn't work as well.
