• Rhinestones & Roland GX-24

Anyone here doing Rhinestones on their GX-24? Just bought a system and are having a hard time getting the cutter to close the tiny circles enough so that they weed well.

Apparently the GX-24 lacks the ability to "overcut" - or go around the circle and go a little past to make sure it's closed.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what their thoughts are / how they resolved this issue.

We've manage to produce templates but the weeding process is taking like 20 minutes when it should take a couple minutes at most.

Thanks
John

I actually with Ron at MySuppyHut.com. He is the guy that gives the webinar on doing the rhinestones with the template from the cutter. I am thinking about replacing my cutter and called to ask about their cutters. One of the things that said was the the GX-24 does not have enough down force to cut in one pass, so you should set it to cut twice! If you cannot get this to work give him a call.

Hey Neighbor!

It's not so much tht the down force isn't great enough - the circles cut all the way thru (I set for 230g of force and the cutter goes up to 250 I believe). It's that they don't complete. I did hear that it's possible cutting the template twice might alleviate that issue so I will try it and get back to you.

I may want to talk with Ron anyway - I am guessing he sells the consumables eh?

Thanks for the tip!

I wouldn't call it complete success, but I was able to get off about 60-70% of the dots - which is a good start. Still had to use my fingers and pick out the rest.

Not ideal but if it's what I am stuck with for now, I can deal. I suppose if I start doing this big time and it catches on with clients, I'll get a cutter that can do overcutting

They do sell consumables. I have not tried to do anything with the rhinestones yet since I don't have access to my cutter since I upgraded to Windows 7 and Coreldraw X4. But, they sell something called weeding tape for this stuff. Have not idea how well it works, but maybe. Ron seems to have a wealth of knowledge on this and was very happy to help me whether I bought anything from him or not.

Ok, fixing mailbox now Give me a couple minutes. David - what cutter do you have? The GX-24 is win 7 compatible with the new driver.

Wow - had more than 60 stored in there - I guess I need to read and delete things. Juli - you are clear to PM me if you need to!

When i bought my Stone Stencil system from DAS, they told me I would need to use a 60 degree to cut the stencil materialon my GX 24. They also said I would not be able to do anything smaller than 10mm because the GX24 does not have the downforce pressure. Before I tried to use the GX24, funds became available for me to buy the Ioline 300. The Ioline 300 will not only cut the stencil material but it will also cut appliques and any heat transfer material you desire. DAS also sells the GCC cutter which is what they include in the stone stencil system. It sells for about $2000 I think. I have seen it in operation and it is very fast and does a wonderful job. You do not have the problems you are experiencing with the GX24. Little or no weeding is required.

I hear you Barbara - but unfortuantely, I'm not in the market to spend another $2k on a second cutter. We like the GX-24 and it's served us very well to this point. I am quite sure a cutter with an overcut function would work well. We did look at the ioline back when but it was too expensive for us personally as a point of entry into heat pressed vinyl - not to mention the gx24 cuts aplique without any problem.

You're telling me they said you wouldn't be able to cut anything smaller than a centimeter in diameter (10mm)? That would make the system pretty much useless to sell to any gx-24 owner if that's the case. Do you mean .10?

The ss10 stones are 2.9 mm - the ss6 is 1.9
