• What kind & brand of thread do you prefer?

I'm new and have had many give advice on which brand and type of thread to use.

Most like Isacord but it is expensive. Others only sew with Madeira. I have some Robison Anton Rayon and have had no problems yet.

From what I read rayon stitches out nicer, but polyester is stronger and has less thread breaks.

Any advice?

I use R/A poly as much as I can. Poly has the advantage of not "aging" like rayon does. Over time and depending on your climate, rayon thread dries out and breaks easier. Rayon is a natural fiber, so it isn't as strong as poly. Rayon does have a nicer sheen. Poly lasts forever. Black rayon thread was always my nightmare...too much pigment to make the fibers black. I think with rayon your stitches per minute is slower too, to help it keep from breaking. For me, I go with poly.

Below is a bit of info we share when we train. Polyester threads are designed to sew at the higher speeds and remember that Rayon is not colorfast. If you stitched a white baby bib and it went into the wash with bleach, your embroidery would come out white but Polyester keeps its color.

Thread: Embroidery can be sewn with many types and sizes of threads depending on the desired finished appearance. Embroidery threads are commonly made from rayon, polyester, cotton and metallics. Rayon threads are generally made with a twisted multifilament construction and have a high sheen. Polyester threads can be made in three different thread constructions including a twisted multifilament, air entangled and spun construction. Obviously, cotton threads are only made in a spun construction. Both spun polyester and spun cotton thread have a “matte” or low sheen appearance. Rayon and Polyester filament threads have a high sheen. Polyester is stronger than Rayon and has superior color fastness and abrasion / chemical resistance. Metallics are filament threads that have the highest luster and are formed with a synthetic core wrapped in metal foil. Generally metallic threads do not sew as well as polyester or rayon threads. The most common ticket size for rayon or polyester embroidery threads is a No. 40, however other sizes are available. A 60 weight thread is used for fine detail and small lettering for best results. Several thread companies are: Isacord by Ackermann, Madeira, RA (Robinson-Antone).

I have a lot of RA superbrite poly and it is wonderful. HOWEVER, I also use a LOT of MADEIRA and it works very well, I can't tell the difference but I ahrdly get any thread breaks with any of those. Then I tried ISACORD because I heard about ti on this forum and I had so many thread breaks (same design that I used with RA and Madeira) but that was just my experience, NOW, I have tried several METALLIC thread (YENMEN and I forgot what else) and they did not work as I expected, I have run RA metallic thread at 1200spm without one single thread break and having the final product look amazing, and I didnt need special digitizing for it, I havent tried Madeira metallic but will soon. Also, I think that you can getsupplies from Madeira if you purchased a machine from Melco, and the 1100y spool are like $2.10 can't beat thta price!

We use only Gutermann polyester. Price is very reasonable and there are plenty of colors. I can run it at full speed on my machines and rarely have a thread break.

I sew with Floriani threads and love them. They are a very high sheen poly. Side by side clients cannot tell the difference--Either can I. Since I switched over to almost all Floriani and some RA which I also love my thread breaks are rare. Floriani threads are distributed by RNK Distributing--www.florianicommercial.com. Their service and help are second to no one.
In case you are wondering--I don't work for them!

I have been using Fufus brand for many years,
It is the Manufacturer of Floriani Thread.

It is great not matter if purchased from RNK as Floriani thread or sewingmachine.com as FUFUS brand thread. Very good quality. IMHO

the price from both is about the same.

I am a retailer for RNK.
mainly due to their purchasing the rights to sell FUFUS thread to the retail market in the USA.

Obout the only thread I stay away from is maderia it is too pricie.

and that is from a wholsale not commercial perspective.
