  • ARC Thread Replacement

For anyone who loved the ARC thread and is searching for its equivalent. Long Creek Mills carries PolyX-40 which is the same thread as ARC and even uses the same color numbers. Just add ESO to the beginning and the rest is exactly the same as the ARC color chart. The website for the PolyX-40 distributor is www.LongCreekMills.com.

This is very sweet news for those who were dreading a conversion to a different thread. I loved ARC and am so very happy to have found it elsewhere.

OMG How did you find this out? I just looked at their website and they only show 1000M spools, do you know if they also sell the larger 5000M spools? Have you actually ordered from them?

Yes they do carry the 5000 cones. Call them directly which is what I did. I have a feeling they're going to get swamped with orders but when I told them the whole ARC story, they said, "bring it on, we're ready!"

The Embroidery Store, Winston-Salem, NC, (www.embstore.com)also carries Poly-X40. Currently have it on sale. Poly-X40 does not use the same spools as ARC--hence, they do not work as well as the Amaya.

I ordered 2 colors that I use a lot of in Arc to try to find a substitute for. The 619 gold will work but the 111 gray was not a close match at all.
The cones do not sit all the way down on the Amaya-it rattles constantly and the thread can get caught on the bottom of the cone. I believe I will be able to correct this, tho.
The thread sews fine, no problems with performance. I will continue to order it.

Thanks Sharon. I'm still waiting for my cones to come in so I can try. Do the cardboard coasters help with this problem?

Considering that I hear the same complaint about the Madeira cones, I would still prefer the higher quality thread and work around the cone issue.

              Thanks again! GF

I have been in e-mail correspondence with Bill Fenimore, the owner of The Embroidery Store, this morning. He has asked that I might share these comments with you:

The Embroidery Store is the developer / marketer of Poly-X 40 thread. We sell this line to independent sewing retailers and some Internet companies such as Long Creek Mills. We offer this thread in 1,000 meter spools exclusively through these retailers. We also stock about 120 colors in 5,000 meter spools and are adding more colors on a regular basis. We have had very good results with the sewability and are converting many large embroiderers to this thread.

When we began developing this line, one of our large customers requested we use the same numbers as the ARC thread so he would not have to change his displays. The colors were to be in the same family, not exact. I did not realize that it would cause some confusion in the market place. Poly-X 40 is not the same thread and is not made by the same mill as ARC.

We welcome any and all Melco users to try Poly-X 40 and hope they accept it. New thread cards are being made and should be available in about 30 days.
                Bill

Wow...thanks for that Bill. Interest that when I specifically asked Long Creek, "is this thread the same as ARC?" their reply was, "Exactly the same stuff." How can that be?

I would like the contact information for the Embroidery Store if that's possible. Please feel free to send it to me off the board.
