    Nick,
Needles: Use "ORGAN" needles as this was the brand of needle your machine was "tuned" to. You could use other brands if you care to try them but you may experience troubles depending on what you use.
Thread: any brand thread should work fine as long as it's 40 weight (industry standard) and preferably polyester thread.
Hats: Every hat will be a little different as these are sewn together by humans. Have fun discovering which brand and style you like best. There will be folks on the list who will give you their suggestions. Remember on the Amaya there are two cap frames one can use... the Wide Angle Cap Frame (WACF) or the Conventional Cap Frame (CCF) for sewing only the front of the cap.
As for the bill of the cap.. we all are considered "After market embroiderers". Meaning we sew on items after the product/garment has been manufactured complete. Embroidery that you see on the bill has been embroidered before the hat was sewn together at the factory. You will not sew on the bill. Not today anyway.
    Good Luck,
    Ed
