  • Nomex thread and backing

I have searched this list and cannot find the member who used Nomex thread for fire uniforms.
I need advice on the process, the cost, the suppliers, and soon.
    Thank you for helping.

In my real life job I work for a company that manufactures PTFE dryer belts for the screen printing industry. We use Nomex thread for sewing the edging and splice together. We purchase this stuff by the pound from Saunders Thread Co. out of NC phone 800-666-6644. We pay about $82.00 per pound (ouch!) and it comes on a 1 lb. spool - or at least that's how the one I have in my hand is packaged. Hope this helps.

Yes, I do have an Amaya and love it, but that's my fun job at the moment. And I'll also take time to thank everyone here for all the great info that comes across - THANKS EVERYONE!
    Blessings,<br />Nancy

Thanks for responding, Nancy. I just know someone on this list repaired and embroidered uniforms with Nomex and said something about opening a seam so the embroidery was between layers. Anyone remember this?

Thanks, KNC, that was some of it. Everything I have seen is for racing. This is for oil field and I have looked for backing to use with the Nomex but find polyester for children's clothing in flame-retardant.
            Do I want a non-woven cotton?

Good point, Curtis, haven't seen any yet. They are inquiring and I am just trying to come up with an idea of price and if I will be able to get the material needed.
I will let you know. Thanks1

We do make a 2 oz tearaway - It is polypropylene
Originally developed for childernswear - si it in inherently FR - However we encourage everyone to try it themselves
it is similar to what someone you called pop away
Althiough more expensive than most backings You will not have to mortgage your farm for it
                  If you do wanrt samples
                  Pls contact me off list
Re nomex thread or FR I do know here to refer you so again pls contact me off list
