  • Design placement on sweatpants

    Hi all,

I have several sweatpants that I need to embroider. Customer would like it on the left thigh. Anyone have a suggestion on how far down from the waistband I should go for both adult and children's pants.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I make my customers tell me exactly where they want it. I have found that I can not outguess the customer. Even if they say, "Oh, just put it where you think...blah, blah, blah". I still make them decide.

But, having said that, I would want the center of the design right at the hip joint. That way, a shirt that hangs outside will probably not cover it up.

If you can print out the design, even if black and white-cut it out and tape it in place on your handy dandy shop dummy (anyone that stands still long enough to put on the sweatpants...LOL)
and see how it looks. If you happen to have access to the 'school supplier' catalogs, go through them and see where they place the logos and that may give you a good idea of placement.
Juli also has it right...never let the customer 'leave it up to you'-because 'you' will be blamed when it isn't right!

If it helps I just did some sweats for the first time last week. I put the design 3-4" down from the waist band and 3-4" in from the outer seam. It depends a little on the size of your design. But I 100% agree with Julie and Roland. I asked my customer how far down they wanted it prior to sewing. This way if they do not like it then too bad.
