• Stitch Count Difference

Can anyone tell me why stitch count changes (decreases) when loading a design from Design Shop in to Amaya?

2nd post: I have a very dense design - it is 8456 stitches in DS, and when I load it in to the machine, it goes down to 7869, and looks different in areas. There must be a setting here I'm unfamiliar with.

Could be wrong - but I believe it's being filtered - check the settings in the OS - can't recall of the top of my head but I think there are check boxes that filter designs as they are loaded.

Are you using TrueType fonts, by any chance?
What Version of AOS are you using?

It doesn't seem as though it would account for almost 600 stitches, but I've noticed that one of the steps OS goes thru when a design is loading says, "removing jump stitches". It seems to read a wire frame design like an expanded design because when I've accidentally left a color change without any elements under it, it loads the colors all wanky (that's a technical term ). Whatever this filtering process is, my designs have never looked any different.

If you've done any wireframe work and it wasn't saved as an exp. version any areas you've worked on will be gone and yes, youwon't see it on screen because it no longer exist as far as the software is concerned. You need to save it 1st, then either open again in DS and send to machine, or open from the folder you saved it to.

Thank you everyone for your help. Clearly, I still have a lot to learn about Design Shop and Amaya OS. The file was sent to me as a .dst file. Of course, I now save it in DS as a .ofm before sending to the machine. I did remove the filtering in OS (v. 10 - most recent) and now my stitch count difference is less than 200. Has anyone taken additional training classes with Melco, and if so, were they worth it. I know I'm not using my software/machine to it's full potential due to lack of education.

All my designs are wireframe. The only time I save anything as .exp is when I've used a fill that I've created myself; OS cannot read these and replaces them with standard fill. I have never had any problem with work disappearing or not showing up on screen.

Depending on the version of DS one may have, you also need to save work as exp. if you use the blend tool in the effects tab (which I rarely use). For some reason, it will alter it if you don't. That happened to me using version 9, and was told to save it in exp. format 1st. I then would open that format and save as an ofm. if desired. Generally I do my own blending. In versions 9 & 10, if I move any points, say in a predigitized lettering and do not save it as exp., the lettering is gone from view when re-opened and in DS I only see the x's where the letters are suppose to show. One just needs to remember to save it as exp. then can go back to an ofm. format if desired. Weird, but hey, it works!

Another thing that I always do when I have to save something as .exp is to also save a wireframe copy so that I can alter it in the future. The automatic conversion tool from .exp to wireframe usually results in 6 zillion little elements; it does not take it back to the way it was originally digitized in wireframe.

Janet, I should clarify when working with wireframe, if you move points in exp.editing mode, that is when you need to save as exp. or you will lose your work and not be able to view it on screen. Just moving input points of straight or curved or changing properties, will not affect the design in the way you describe. Also, turn off your 3D accelerator in DS,(rt. click on it to open and change)that has been known to disrupt things.
