  • Design problem in OS9

We have been running Amaya OS 9 for 6 months with good results and no problems. Today we went to run a design that hasn't run in a year. It started out good, then it started sewing a filled circle. It did the underlay & started the fill. At this time it would sew a few stitches and trim. It kept doing this till we shut it down. Tried design on anothe machine with same results. Shut everything off & restarted, still the same. There is no trims in this part of the design. We even loaded the original digitized disk with no results. We next shut everything down and started up on OS 7. the design ran ok.
No other designs give us any problems. What could it be? Thanks, Bill, from Fine Line

    Bill,

Open your file in DS and check that object. Looks like it is satin instead of a fill. The reason you are getting trims is because the stitch length is greater than the length set for auto trim within the object so the trims wont appear on the tree view (just like trims within a lettering object).

This design was digitized in 2007 by an outside person. We can run it in OS 7 but not in OS 9. We opened the machines in OS 7 to run the design, which ran ok. In OS 9 it goes carzy in one part of the design with trim, trim and so on. Thanks to anyone who can help. Thanks Steve for answering. Bill from Fine Line

I had troubles with several designs that ran fine in version 7. I had to save them in 7 as an expanded file, then they were fine in 9. And nope, I have no idea why this is the case, but it solved the problem. Hope it works for you.

The design is saved as expanded, that was the way it came from the digitizer which we do not use any more. Why does is sew in OS 7, but not in OS 9? Someone out there should have an answer. Bill from Fine Line

Just had another old design that wouldn't sew columns or fills in OS9, but sews ok in OS7. Anyone out there no why or what we can due to make them sew in OS9. You dont know it won't sew right untill you start running it, then when it gets to a certain part, it starts trim, trim and so on. Then have to shut machines off, shut OS down & restart in OS7. Then move the machine forward to where it started messing up.

Your designs are most likely saved in a .dst format- pet peeve of mine for the Amayas. You can try to convert the file to wireframe, but, usually, this opens up a whole new can of worms- but not always. You can fix the little things that go haywire when you do this- it just takes time. If your digitizer can't send you an .ofm file, see if he/she can save it as a .cnd- still not as good as .ofm, but much better than .dst. If you need to know how to convert to wireframe, just click on the entire design in the tree and scroll down to "operations" and click on "convert to wireframe"- viola! You can also convert seperate elements of the design.
