  • New to DS – have getting started questions

We are new to design shop and have some getting started questions.
Is there a way to make the stitch type and underlay type default to something? It would be nice to make sure our folks can’t make a mistake.
Second, is there a way to control what appears in the alphabet pull down? We only offer a specific set of fonts and I don’t want people constantly searching for the few fonts we use among the hundreds we don’t.

Sitch out the fonts that you want to show the customer and don't let them see the screen. They can see a sample without all the possible fonts.

      Margaret,

I am thinking more in terms of the people building the jobs. 95% of the fonts in the pull down list are ones we will never embroider with, and I'd like to get them off the list if it is possible.

There is a way to remove or copy and save them someplace else. I don't know the steps. Sorry

All the fonts in your 'fonts' folder show up so you would need to remove the ones you don't want available.

You can just copy them to another file in case you want them for something else sometime.

Is there any way to change the defaults for stitch type and underfill?

In the properties window there are 3 little icons near the top left of the window. If you set your parameters to what you want you can click the center icon and it will use those parameters for the current project. You can then also click the left icon and choose 'save the defaults permanently'. The right icon applies the defaults you have set to the object you have highlighted.

I have found that my defaults are not there when I get out of Design Shop and the back in. As long as I use the right icon and Design Shop has not been turned off the defaults are there.

Any time you want to change the defaults to something else just go through the same process.

I hope someone has a way to keep all the default settings that are actually permanent. I will watch for other answers you get.

I am trying to thin out the Melco fonts but most of them are named things like "M030.alp" and I don't know what the actual font name is. Any body else have a decoder ring?

I looked at the 'code sheet' located next to the block where you select the font and it does not show the Melco name for each font. You might email Melco and get the information you are looking for.

I ended up doing it the hard way and now have the list.
