  • Digitizing tips and tricks

I have owned my AMAYA's for 3 years now and am still having a hard time catching onto the digitizing portion of the trade. I have Design PRO + V9 software.
Many times I try to load a design or edit one, the software locks up or shuts down. Is this a bug in the software or am I doing something wrong.
I took the online classes and it seemed easy when they explained everything but very complicated when I try to do a task.
Can anyone tell me an easy way to learn this?
I have some digitizing lessons I bought from Balbo but to find out they are with the Wilcom software so I am having a hard time relaying it to Melco software.
I am at my wits end on this digitizing. I would like to learn how to do this.

Any help or tips any of you could give me, I would appreciate!!

    Thanks so much!

Can't tell you about any other training options, however, sometimes going into your design shop and right clicking on the 3D icon and unchecking the hardware acceleration will help with the lock ups and shut downs. Also unchecking the auto save so it saves if DS unexpectedly shuts down also helped a great deal for me. I would love it if Melco or someone on this website offered some advanced digitizing webinars. Some of us don't have the "play around with it" time. Good Luck!

        Hi,
This is just in regards to your freezing up issues. I was having similar issues and found out that most (but not all) of the problem was that my computer's processor wasn't big enough. I've heard from others on this board that DS takes a lot of processing power. I was using an old Dell desktop and then a new emachine, but both had slow processors (CPU). So I just purchased a desktop with an Intel i5 processor and it's much better. I still have one issue that causes a freeze up and I plan on contacting Melco about it. It's when I have text on an arc and if I select just one of the letters and try to move it left/right by clicking and dragging--many times it freezes up still! I thought at first it was an issue related to TrueType fonts, but it also does it when using Melco alphabets. I think it might be related to the arc because the blue line under the text that you see on an arc, turns into a blue line sticking out on a strange angle. I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue? (Sorry, I know I digressed and that's not the issue that this post was really about!)

Thanks MJ, I think I know what you are talking about. It has been so frustrating to me.
Especially when I am adjusting fonts, you go to center it and the underlay moves and the top stitching stays. You try to undo and then all that shows is the underlay.
I have also had problems when putting a ziz zag underlay down, it shoots a line out and does not stitch right. I have noticed that it distorts the registration of the design. When I have looked at the x/y sizing, it shows large numbers or negative numbers. Maybe it is something that I am doing, not sure, but it happens a lot.
I wish there were someone close that I could take a good digitzing class from. I am in Oregon, outside of Portland.
Have a Happy New year and Thank you!
