  • AOS 10 and Windows 7 problems anyone?

Does anyone else out there have AOS 10? I have it on an older laptop and it often uses very high percentages of the CPU -- like up to and above 90% on a regular basis.
I'm thinking about getting a new laptop and want to know if anyone else has had any problems with AOS 10 and Windows 7.
Still waiting on Melco to correct the bugs in AOS 10, but it appears that won't happen anytime soon! The main bug (for me) being OS 10 will not open most files that have any TrueType font with underlay--I have to save everything as an .exp for OS 10 to be able to load it successfully.
Also, the Advanced Status tab does not work at all--crashes every time. Melco is aware of it and it's unbelievable to me that there are still no updates to OS 10 yet.
    Any input will be appreciated!
    Thanks!<br />MJ, Everything Embroidered

I have AOS 10 and have the same problems you do. I was running it with Vista and was told that AOS 10 wasn't compatible with Vista so I bought a desktop with Windows 7 and still have problems. Yes, the advanced status tab ALWAYS crashes and Melco obviously doesn't care. I can't believe there's been no updates either, it's been plenty long enough that they should have worked out some of the bugs.

Thanks for the input, Dianne! I have contacted Melco many times and they just say they're aware of the problems and just keep checking for an update! I can't believe it would take this long--I don't think they're working very hard to resolve these issues.
Do you have DS 9? If so, do you have the regular DS or the Pro version? Do you have issues with the Truetype fonts or do you not use them? I use the Melco fonts when I can, but I have customers that want specific TT fonts, so I have to use them. And I make a lot of patches, so I use a lot of text/fonts!
It just seems that everybody just puts up with all the bugs and finds "work arounds" to get done what they need to get done! I think Melco needs to be bombarded with everybody's complaints to get them to correct the problems!

Yes I have DS 9 but I have the lite version. I had decided when I first started to buy the cheapest and learn to digitize later. Now I've gotten so used to sending stuff out to be digitized that I may never upgrade. My customers don't mind paying for it either and I'm sure I have saved myself much frustration. I'm one of those people who don't stop until I can master it and spend countless hours in front of a computer so it's best for me not to digitize. I don't use TT fonts but I really get tired of the AOS problems. Mine also freezes during the middle of a sew out so if you decide you need to slow your machine down or speed it up during the sewout, you can forget it. It also periodically just closes itself down. I'm sure other things happen that I have just gotten used to and don't remember right off the top of my head but it's very frustrating. You're right about "just putting up with" all of the bugs. I DO need to start complaining but I read everyone else's comments and they general consensus is Melco will do what they want when they want so I haven't bothered.

I'm pretty sure Ver.10 is for use only with the XTS machine. I have the XT and use the latest Ver.9 of OS and Design Shop Pro Plus. I run it on Windows 7; no problems with TT fonts. Hope that answers your concerns.

There are bugs and have been bugs consistently since Ver.6 since I've used and upgraded to my present Ver.9. Unfortunately, it's still lacking on many fronts. Melco makes fantastic machines, but they definitely lack in the area of software proramming (in my opinion).

          Great customer service though.

Hi Dianne, I am in full agreement with your comments and feel exactly the same way about digitizing. Just curious, who are your favorite digitizers to use?

AOS10 works fine with the original reds - there are a few quirks but I believe an updated version is on the way soon.

I have tried about 4 or 5 different digitizers and I've found that Eagle Digitizing does a GREAT job for a very fair price. They charge 25.00 for any design under 5" and 75.00 for anything larger. Doesn't matter what the stitch count is. Their designs sew out very nicely. I also like vlstitchmaster but he's a little more pricey. Who do you use GF?

Thank you! I like Wicked Stitch of the East based in Ohio. He's a 3rd generation digitizer and top rate. Always looking for backup though.

I believe I tried Eagle and some of their stuff was nice, but some not very. Are they the ones who email everything in three's? I was under the impression (through their website) that they were local to me. I drove by their address only to find a warehouse and nothing else. I stopped using them. I think it was Eagle but I could be mistaken.

Just checked the Eagle website. Yes, that's the setup I used. Their address is 8 miles from mine and there's nothing there.

That's interesting. I've only had one design that I had a problem with and they weren't willing to admit that it was the digitizing at first but I sent it to Rod and he said it definitely was. I sent them his response and they reworked the design and it sewed out fine. I have sent them some really intricate files and they have all turned out well. But I would much rather do business with someone in the US and it sounds like they may be overseas. At any rate, I don't want to do business with someone that lies about their location. I will try Wicked Stitch. I've gotten quotes from them before but have not used them. And yes Eagle does send emails in 3's, it's annoying. Thanks for the info.

                        Hi everyone,
Here is the latest response I've received from Melco service when I asked about AOS 10 and Windows 7 (and the TTF issues).

                        "Hi MJ,

Engineering is working on a new release for Amaya OS v10. It should be out shortly. You can install it into the Windows 7 computer. It will not make anything any worse. You should be able to load designs with True Type fonts in it to Amaya when the next release comes out. I do not have a time frame for the next release of DesignShop.

Design Shop Pro+ is the best digitizing software I have ever used- I treasure the fact that I have it, bugs and all.

I am running 8 XT's with version 10 and windows XP. Using the Beta version right now that should be released soon. I understand the frustration of users that have Windows 7 and the software not running properly. Contrary to what has been posted, Melco is working to get issues with AOS and Windows 7 resolved. They don't have the resources they had a couple of years ago. I for one, am pleased they are still in business and able to support their customers even though it may not be at the same level of service we saw a few years ago when they had more employees working on issues.

I run OS10 and, like I said, I like the versatility that the Amayas offer. I could not do what I do with any other setup. But getting rid of the little quirks that the program(s) have would be nice. Just remember- perfection is a good goal, but not always a realistic one.
