  • problem with ethernet communication

Hi everyone, I am trying to use my Amaya for the first time since Christmas. I installed a new drive and Windows 7 Pro on my laptop late last month. Now I keep getting the following message: Ethernet communications did not start correctly" and a prompt to reboot. The last mention of this problem is dated January 2007. Does anyone have an idea what is causing this problem? I have PCTools Internet security installed. I get the same message on both computers. And also, my ethernet adapter won't show up in the Amaya OS, but works when I use it to go online? Thanks for any help. Edna

If you are using the ethernet cable directly from the computer to the Amaya AND its the same cable you had used to go online, then its the wrong type of cable. You need to use a crossover cable to go directly from the computer to the Amaya. You should be able to buy one from Radio Shack/Best Buy/Fry's Electronics.

Comcast company broke the end of my crossover cable that came with my machine. I'd been using another ethernet cable in the past, same one that I'm trying to use now. Do you still think that is the problem? It never gave me trouble before, though I was using it with XP not Windows 7. Thank you for your help, Edna

Do you have the cable going through a hub or direct to the Amaya from the computer?

Then you must use a crossover cable. It should be marked on the cable but you can check by looking at both ends. Place the ends side by side; look at the color of the lines coming in. They should not be alike (regular ethernet cables are).

Thank you Dorothy! I will send my DH to get me the cable from BB or Radio Shack. I'll let y'all know the outcome. It has been frustrating. Wonder what changed that the regular ethernet cable doesn't work anymore? Edna

Did you set up windows 7 to work in the XP mode? Research for this in the archives....

Thank you Rod! You know, all it took (course it took me 6 hours to finally get this far) was right clicking on the AOS icon, click on properties, click the compatability tab and select Windows XP sp3. Now I don't get that annoying error message, and the ethernet name comes up in AOS options/ethernet. Finally! Thank you all for the help Edna

I will try the crossover cable. Maybe that's part of the problem. Why would I get this error upon reinstallation:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\amaya9404.rra could not be removed. Invalid access to memory location.

I can start up the OS software, and start up the XT, but they don't see each other. Crossover cable may solve that part. The error message seems to have something to do with the icon? How can I fix that? I go into the CHANGE ICON prompt, and it says it can't find the target file but it IS there.
