Windows 7

I have the old design shop and OS software and was wondering if I upgrade to windows 7 do I have to upgrade to the Design shop 9. Does windows 7 work with design shop but will not operate OS system or does it not work with either design shop or the OS system. Thanks.

Did you receive any answers to this question elsewhere? I have a Big Red and 4.something DS & OS and have been thinking about getting Windows 7 but am afraid these programs won't work with it.

big red will not work with win 7 or vista. You must upgrade design shop if your are going to move up the a newer version of windows.

My sister just ran into the Windows 7 problem and solved it yesterday. There are 3 versions of Windows 7 and they had purchased the lower version. She said they had to upgrade to the middle version (sorry, I don't know what it is called) and she said it works just fine now--both her Big Red and XT work on Windows 7 and she is running Design Shop Pro+ and AOS Version 9.

Does anyone have any idea if we will experience problems with Windows 7 (even if we purchase one of the higher versions) since our software is so old - 5.07 Design Shop Pro and AOS? We digitize all our own designs and the old Dell PC with XP has become tediously slow, but I'm afraid if we try to upgrade the computer our software won't work. As you can probably tell, I am not at all computer literate, so if you have some advice, please be merciful and talk down to my level.

You are going to have to upgrade if you want to use Windows 7 - no two ways about it. The older versions of AOS will not run with Windows 7 do to what I believe were network stack incompatibilites.

Bottom line, suggest you call Melco and see what kind of deal they will do for you to get you where you need to be.

Your other choice is to find a copy of XP on ebay and once you get the new computer, have your local computer geek format it to use that operating system instead (about $100ish for the disc + your geeks time).

Since several people has problems with Windows 7, I would get on mymelco.com and start a discussion with Mike Doe. He is the master with all things Melco in regards to software. He should be able to help without paying $.95 a minute.

Mike monitors this site as well - but there aren't really problems with Windows 7 per se - it works fine both on 32 and 64 bit - as long as your software is up to date. I believe you can call your sales rep on that to see what the latest version you are elidgable for under your license.

I could be wrong here but I don't think DS is an issue - it's AOS. I believe you can still run DS just fine.

And AOS older editions can't run even under XP mode on 7 because of the aforementioned networking stack issues.

Thanks for your advice. I'm not eligible for any upgraded versions and can't afford to buy them. I do have access to a geek so it seems like running XP on a new computer is the way to go. One question - what do you mean by "network stack incompatibilities"? My geek wasn't sure what you were referring to - multiple machines? ethernet problems?

It's a network protocol issue talking to the machines.

Have you considered getting a new machine and adding your old hard drive into it and booting from XP on that hard drive, and use the new hard drive for storage? Not only will your XP work like a champ on a new upgraded system, but then you will be set with Win 7 when you can afford the software upgrade, we are in the same boat and I can't afford the $700 to upgrade from 7 to 9. Anyway if you do this it might be the most cost effective,
remember by the fastest Computer with the most ram you can afford. adding storage space is easy later on if you run low. Ram is slightly more technical so load it right off the bat. Most Win7 systems need a lot of RAM so you should be golden for XP.

Thanks Ron - it sounds like a good idea. I showed your answer to my computer geek and she said the main problem may be that when I used to have this computer connected to the internet, it picked up some bugs which are now causing my problems. She's going to try to clean up my hard drive and then we'll go from there.

Will version 7 of Amaya OS version 7.118 run on vista or is windows XP the best way to go?
If Vista how do you get it to work?
