  • Windows 7 and AMAYA OS - PLEASE HELP

We are using 2 Amaya XTs with OS V7 under Windows XP for nearly 4 years without any problems. I have also introduced the same system to a friend two years ago and his XT has been running fine until now - his computer gave up - so he bought a new PC - ONLY available with Windows 7.

    Now the Problem starts:
First OS 7 would not install at all - so he called melco in switzerland and after a tel support session he was told that OS7 would not run under windows 7 - he would need OS V8 - which he downloaded from melco.
He tried to install V8 - but no luck - OS 8 would not recognise the amaya XT. After another call to melco he was told that the networkcard in his PC was most likely faulty. So he got hold of his PC tech - they checked out the computer on a wired network - - checked all cables everything - ALL fine.

Next call to melco - they told him he would need a switch between the PC and the amaya XT to solve the problem. (please note: the XT was linked to the PC via a cross-over cable) - we tried to use my notebook with XT and OS version 7 installed - the system works perfectly - no problem with the Amaya connections.
Now we are waiting for the network specialist to try it with the suggested switch - however can't see that this will solve the problem.

Had any of you any similar problems ?? - any suggestion how to solve the windows 7 issue would be most appreciated
best regards to all of you from Austria

What brand of computer? I learned the my HP had to have a powered usb hub as it would not recognize the USB connection from the Amaya when the Amaya was off--which has to be off when you start the OS. A $20 powered hub solved my problems--although it didn't grow back all of the hair I pulled out trying to figure out the problem.

      Hello Knehmer
Thank you for the quick response - yes - you are right - he has got a new HP pc.
So I told him about your experience with the USB port - he will get a hub tomorrow (sorry time diff) and will let me know if he solved the problem

      take care - thanks again

I am using V9 for Design Shop and OS. Make sure that your OS is the same as your Design Shop V8. I have also had problems loading from the internet and had to get Melco to send me a disk to make it work.

          Monipezi,

I think Knehmer means you should get a powered ethernet hub. That is the fix for HP laptop computers. The Amaya machine does not run on USB.

Thanks your for all your help
we have tried a powered usb hub for the key on th HP - but no change
we are only using the AMAYA OS - now version 9 - not designshop
We have suceeded in installing OS version 9 but the software will not see the link via the ethernet connection
We have tried a crossover cable - and also a swithch inbetween with two standard cables - NO LUCK
we will have another go at it tonite when my frien will come over to my place with the HP - we will ad another ethernet card to the PC (even if the on-board ethernet connection works fine in a network) and we will install another new Harddrive with a brand new installation of windows XP just to proof that the PC works with the amaya OS under an XP evironment.
We will know more later - once more - thanks for all your help
            greetings from vienna - Peter

That IS what I meant--sorry for steering you the wrong way. You will not be using the crossover cable at all...just regular ethernet cables.

I think by now we have tried everything possible with my friends pc and the amaya os.
Facit - under windows 7 AMAYA OS V9 will not recognise any ethernet card or the on-board ethernet at all. we have tested several pci cards - from us robotics etc - the work on our inhouse network under windows 7 perfectly. we swapped the harddrive and installed good old win xp prof - NO problems at all - os V9 sees all the ehernet card without any problems.

we also read the eleven page pdf release note kindly sent to us - and the compatibility-mode setting - we tried them all - but still no luck

I am convinced now that the problem is within os V9 - not recognising the ethernet cards under windows 7

guess we better stay with Win XP until the problem is solved

thanks again for all your help
