  • Memory Dump

While working in DesignShop Pro+ with lettering I have received a message "A serious error has occured. Memory will be dumped. Your system will be shut down to prevent serious damage.

This has happened twice on different computers. One computer will not come back up. Any idea what is happening? Is the program faulty?

I have seen this message twice before in both cases it was due to a Virus / Trojan

Hope this is no the case with you.

This is one reason I NEVER connect my embroidery computer to the internet.

Same here...I have PC's running my digital printer, Amaya, and engraving system, and they aren't even connected to printers. Never been on the internet and never will be...I have other computers for that. Look at it this way...spend $499 for a Dell to play on the internet, or spend $100's of dollars in lost sales, days of no work trying to clean up the computer, hours spent reloading and rebooting...just thinking about it financially...getting a Dell (or something else) is well worth it. Then just transfer any files that you need to by thumb drive-do NOT hook the computers together, ever! And...one of the dumbest things I ever see...when you AREN'T USING YOUR INTERNET COMPUTER...TURN IT OFF! Why do people that own PC's never shut them off? And put them ON THE FLOOR under the desk? Loads up the air cooling fan with **** from your shoes and the floors...ever see a Macintosh on the floor? NEver! THey are a DESKTOP computer...not something to hold your carpet in place!
(Yes, I'm a Mac man...own 6 or more of them...LOL) and never had one of them overheat from plugged airvents yet!

Lets not just assume it's a virus...

I have my computers hooked up 24/7 with proper virus protection and home firewall - and have NEVER had an issue with viruses on my embroidery machines. However, I know people who spend 20 grand on machines and software and then won't run or pay for proper protection on their network. Doesn't make sense.

That message is also caused by hard drive failure/issues. If you can boot to a command prompt in safe mode, I recommend you run chkdsk /f to scan and repair bad sectors.

If it only happens in design shop and you can get into the one computer - run malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and then install and run NOD32 Antivirus http://www.eset.com/download/free-trial

Then if you still have issues, uninstall the melco programs, delete the folders, and reinstall.

On the one that doesn't start - do you mean it boots, hits the windows logo and reboots immediately?

            What operating system is this?

If it's dumping memory, increasing the page file size will help but I need to know which O/S it is running to help. The way it's done in XP is much different than Vista/7
