  • Outline question

I always had good results using the 'change element type' to add outlines to parts of a design using V7. My V9 has all available updates and OS V9 does too. My outlines now are too far inside the element allowing the element color to show on the outside of the outline.

Has anyone had this problem? Using the help I haven't found any new method of adding outline. Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong?

Any suggestions will certainly be appreciated.

Is the outline too far on the inside of the element even when you stitch it out? because sometimes it'll look like it's too far in, on the screen, but because of the pull compensation, it stitches fine....If it was text, you could use auto borders. Otherwise, I'm not sure. I usually do what you were saying, "change element type" and that usually works well. Maybe if the element that you're outlining could have the pull compensation reduced if it's outside the outline. If the element was made using the "single line input method" then maybe you should change that to be off-center (make it 90% left or right, depending).....

I have tried several different changes to try to fix this registration problem. As I went through checking everything I found that the 'pull offset' for the fill part of the design was set at +2. I don't know how I did that and not remember it at all but I changed it to 0 which helped some. I still had one direction of the registration slightly off. Another user then posted a note about fabric stretch when the stitching matched the grain of the fabric. I was trying to digitize the alphabet using 270 stitch direction for the fill and when I changed it to 50 the registration is fine now.

In summary I had 2 problems that complicated things for me. The phantom setting I used for the pull offset and then the stitch direction compounded the problem. I knew I had always had nice looking outlines so I knew I had something terribly messed up. I am pleased with the alphabet now as it is stitching out perfectly.

Thanks for all the advice on this list.
