  • V9 DS and Vista 32 bit Ultimate

I just installed V9 DS Pro + on my Vista 32 bit Ultimate edition computer, want to get more familiar with it before we connect it to our computer that is connected to the new XT. The only thing I have been doing today is going through the Help menu and getting familiar with the changes in DS9. The computer as done the "Design Shop has stopped working and will close" window at least 5 times so far. Is there a setting I need to change??? My version is 9.00.087 and I checked for updates and it told me there were none.

    Thanks again

This has happened to me and several other people here with Windows XP. Seems adding more memory (at least 2gb RAM) fixes this issue although Vista may require more than 2gb of memory with DesignShop.

REcheck by right clicking on your my computer and choosing properties, But most computers that are sold with 4 gig's of RAM are 64 bit OS.
and design shop will not work with the 64bit OS.

Just so everyone knows, it is not necessary to have a super duper rocket launching PC to run the Amaya machines.
You wouldn't use a pick-up truck to collect your groceries at the store when a grocery basket does works just fine.
A used PC with 1 gig of memory and WINDOWS XP should do the trick. I just recommend you start with a clean hard drive. Even anti-virus software isn't necessary on the PC that runs your Amayas. Just don't connect it to the Internet.

You are right about the 4GIGs of ram being 64-bit. I bought a Dell laptop about 6 months ago and wanted a 64-bit processor and was told that was what I had. When I started checking my computer, I had 3GIGs of Ram with a duo-core processor. That is not the same thing as a 64-bit processor. I am glad not I did not get a 64-bit because most of my softwared would not work with a 64-bit. Just my 2 cents worth.

I thought the last update on the DS software, you would be able to run it on a 64-bit computer. When Dell was running there superHuge sale a while back I got one. Haven't put it on yet to see if it works, but I think I will just to see now.

                Jerome,

My understanding is that Version 9 is now compatible with 64 bit computers. Design Shop did work with 64 bit before, but OS would not...now both are suppose to work just fine with Ver9...

As mentioned - DS and AOS now work with 64 Bit Vista.

While we're at it, lets clear up another misconception... 64 bit vista will run most programs the 32 bit version will without issues. There are a few imcompatibilities but as a pretty heavy user myself, I have 2 computers on my network that run 64 bit vista and they run all the major programs fine (quickbooks/quicken, office, adobe creative suite etc...). The problem with AOS was with the network stack and that was resolved.

In most cases, if your stuff can run on vista 32, it will run fine on vista 64. Will there be exceptions, yes - but for most users, the transition is seamless or at most, might require a few driver updates.

Is there a way to just download the update file and run it on my Amaya computer instead of connecting that computer to the internet? Any suggestions?

My husband is the one that built my computer, he put in the 4 gigs of ram. I loaded my DS9 on a laptop at work with vista home version, it didn't want to close/not respond as often as my tower system at home. Will work with it some more and see if it continues to crash. I do have the 32 bit version of Vista Ultimate.

Also I'm only running the Design Shop on the Vista computer, not the Amaya O.S.

I did a search and saw a post that mentioned to uncheck the box Enable Hardware Acceleration under 3D Settings. I did this and so far I haven't crashed yet

                          I'll keep my fingers crossed
