  • DS Pro+ open bought digitized exp files

Can Design Shop Pro + open a bought .exp file to see what kind of specs they are using, like density, stitch length etc? When I digitize my own I do have to tweek it lots, and so I sub the file out to be digitized, and when I run that file it runs smooth.
I want to diesect the file so I can learn more about the different stitch, pull comp etc...
    Any help would be appreciated!

The answer is NO. But you can turn it to wireframe and do something. But, believe me, it is a mess and I would not recommend that a person new to digitizing do this. It is bad enough for someone with experience.

You can, however, watch it sew out on the screen. You can learn from that. Just remember that you really can only see the structure of a design in the native format. DS's native format is ofm. So if it was not digitized in ofm and you get it in ofm, then you will not be able to see the elements and the data associated with each element.

        Poker,

When you send your file out to be digitized, see if they can send you a .cnd file. You will be able to edit and deconstruct it so you can see what makes it tick. If your digitizer can't save as a .cnd, find one that can/will.

I just tried a new co. for digitizing and they sent me an OFM file. This design was the best sew out I've ever had! Check them out at...

The DS program can open almost any embroidery file. When I buy a design, especially a big design with many color changes, I usually just buy pes so that I don't have to have another file with the color list. They run fine. This is true for DS V7 and V9. But your question was can you open it up and looks at the structure. The answer is usually no. It all looks like one huge element per color. It is difficult to change sizes or change anything because it will not add or subtract stitches.

Dakota Collectibles has the ofm format. But even there you may not get a "native" ofm format, But, I believe all their new designs are "native" ofm - that is they have actually been digitized in DS. But all their old designs have been converted from whatever to ofm. I mostly digitize my own stuff and thereby avoid all these problems. But I do buy way too many designs! Just can't halp myself!
