  • Name Patch for Coast Guard

Anyone know the rules for a name patch for a Coast Guard uniform? Like Material, size, color thread and font.

Just got a call from a desperate mother - son coming in tomorrow and has to have this.

I think I know this one. I've sewn them on for the locally stationed members. The material is the same as the uniform material. The font is Arial. Thread color is white. Embroidery directly onto the uniform is prohibited. I don't have one here in front of me right now so I can't give you the height. SORRY!

Is there a satin stitch around the edges? Doesn't look like it. So is it special tape? They do call it tape. Don't suppose I could fake it so this poor guy can use his larger uniform this weekend?

Yes it is a special tape. You can find some info on 1800nametape.com. Some uniforms take a more rigid tape and some require a tape that is like the uniform material. Hope this helps. Also at that website you will see the letter style.

If he has old uniforms, he can "unsew" those.... otherwise, unless you have the tape on hand, I think there's nothing that can be done... sorry!
