  • Design Shop V9 - NEW and IMPROVED!!

Just got the announcement from Melco that the newest Design Shop V9 is available to order. I don't know if everyone here is receiving their emails or announcements.

Recommend visiting www.mymelcoworld.com as another new cool site for Melco users. Discount on the new upgrade, and some discussion groups just beginning. Not much discussion going yet, but has the potential.

    Regards,
    Dave

Yes, I too received the e-mails regarding this. I looked around the site and yes it looks like it just rolled out today. I didn't even see it mentioned at the Melco area at Long Beach ISS.

Interesting...I have signed up several times to receive emails and in over a year of owning my Amaya have never received one email and also never received my 'free' upgrade of the Design Shop Pro + software which was suppose to come to me within a month or so of buying my machine. Each time I called my salesperson, he said the upgrade wasn't ready yet. I finally just gave up getting anything and have been flying by the seat of my pants ever since my machine arrived last January 15th. The only person I could ever get any help from was Nick and now he is gone. It's a little discouraging to say the least.

        Dear April,
Last January at Long Beach Melco introducted Version 09 but is really wasn't ready. They sold version 7 all this year and I don't think they had any updates so I don't think you missed anything. The past week-end they reintroducted version 9. I think they spend all year getting version 9 ready. They also introduced mymelcoworld. The website is below. It has a blog, my space type thing and some other things. I just looked at it tonight. This hopefully will aid in communication.

Thanks Margaret. I guess I am just a little frustrated after such an expensive investment and I can't get any communication. The best info I have ever received has been on this list. Thanks everyone for all your help.

            April,

I believe there is a lot of mis-understanding about the term "Upgrade", when it pertains to the Melco software. This may not relate to or be your specific issue but is general information for all concerned....

The term "Upgrade" would apply anytime that a person moves up from one version or level of software to another higher level of the same type of software, such as Design Shop or Amaya OS. For example, we started out with 4.02.xxx then went to 5.07.xxx, then to 6.08.xxx and then to 7.00.xxx. Each movement up, was an "Upgrade."

When Melco fixes a bug or refines a version of the software to add , for lack of a better word.....functionallity, then this is called an "Update." These "Updates", in the past were/are provided free of charge to the customer. As Melco's policies, from time to time, change , based on internal needs, etc,etc,etc.....I cannot tell you just what the current policy is concerning all forms of their "Update" policy. I do know that, in the past, these "Updates", within the same series like 7.00.xxx were provided free of charge to the customer when a specific need arose.

Each "Upgrade" movement, did result in a charge for the new version. Just as with the 09 version, there will be a charge to "Upgrade."

Check directly with Melco for specifics concerning your own software concerns on version 7.00.xxx vs Version 09.

Sharon and I will contact Melco on your behalf and hopefully you will get some information from them as how to proceed in the future concering better communication avenues.

And would it be fair to say that there will be a big learning curve with this Upgrade to 09?

Thanks Rod. I do believe that mine would have been an 'update' now that you have explained it in that sense. I just know that when I purchsed my machine and software that my salesman informed me that there would be an update or upgrade free of charge coming within the month (last January). I touched base with him on several occasions thru August of last year and was told it still wasn't available. I had a wonderful experience when I was at training with Nate and Nick was extremely helpful anytime I needed anything. Just today I received an email to visit the new Melcoworld user site. I believe that is the first and only email I have ever received since purchasing my equipment. Thanks for everyone on this list and their expertise-it has truly been the only reason I haven't given up. Thanks again Rod.

                  Julie:

In short - yes. They revised the interface pretty good - which means if you are comfortable with the current version, I personally think this will be a bit of a jump/relearning process. It's not just a minor upgrade that keeps the same interface. Alot of things were updated, changed and moved (I think most for the better) but it will lightly disorient you for a week or so till you get used to it.

                  Others may disagree.

I'll have it loaded on my laptop on the cruise if you want to see...

Does anyone out there know what the cost of the new V9 is? I was at a training session in July of and the trainer discussed how great V9 was going to be. She also said that users should bargain with Melco when purchasing upgrades because they are produced in-house and knew they could sell for a whole lot less and still make a nice profit. Has anyone tried to do that?

If you already have design shop, then you only need to buy the 'upgrade'...not the full version.
And sometimes you CAN negotiate...because who else is Melco going to sell them to except Amaya owners?
                      Captive audience market...

I just got a quote of $795 introductory price for the upgrade, $995 regularly.

It stings that the upgrade is free (according to another post) if you bought after 1/1/2008, given I had just bought mine late 2007.

Well now I am upset! How did you get a quote of $795 and I just paid $995 for my upgrade. Did you get the quote from your sales rep or Melco Mart? That bears out what I have been saying on ealier posts about bargaining with Melco on cost for the software. It always pays to bargain which is exactly what I had been told by a person in position to know. Thanks for the info.

Barbara, when did you order? If recent enough, they may be able to cancel and you can call your new area rep (just reassigned from West Coast) Simon Orrell 1-800-799-8313 x1061, or cell 813-476-3512. When I talked with him the other day (after our last email trade) he quoted the discount, and I said something about a Barbara from San Antonio and I think he found two of them in his "rolodex" so I expected that he would be calling you. I had already purchased thru MelcoMart Sunday night, called them, couldn't cancel the order at that point, but they matched the price, issuing a credit memo for the difference and all is well.

                            Give it a try,

                              Barbara -

Do call. Surely the Intro Price is available to everyone. That's why I didn't hesitate to post it.
