EMC/EMT running on 1 computer

I don't have an Amaya...yet (Hopefully one day I will) This board is so informative, I hope that you can help me with this.

I don't know where to start but I need help in setting up both machines on the same computer.

Here is what I have:
EMC10T with EDS3 with digitizing (it has the starlan board and is currently hooked up to the computer. It has the special crossover cable that runs from the board in the computer to the machine.

EMT10T with EDSIV (supposed to be Summit, has the dongle and the ENS dongle) I bought the machine in Nashville was told it was Summit but that the dongle was defective. After I drove all the way from south of Little Rock to Nashville I took him at his word, my bad. I know that I will have to register the software to even get a replacement dongle. My plan was to upgrade it to Design Shop Pro. That is on hold for the time being. (It will be cheaper for me to upgrade my EDS3 than this version of EDSIV). I can use this machine by using the disk drive on it.

I bought a network ethernet hub that has 8 ports. I was told a regular ethernet cord should work in connecting the machines.I guess my brain is just too frazzled to get it to work.

I would really appreciate any information to hook these machines up. I prefer the EMT10 over the EMC, I just hate not being able to send my designs directly to the machine.

Im not an expert at this but I am not sure you have the right combo running here. In order to send designs from the computer to the EMT you need to be running ENS with is the program that comes with EDSIV or Design shop but I don't remember if ENS comes with EDSIII. If you are trying to run from your computeer to the hub and the hub to the EMT10 without the ENS I do not think it will work. EDSIII should have some type of interface to connect your ethernet in the computer directly to the EMT10 but again its been a real long time since I have seen or used any of the software besides Design Shop in several yeats so I am a bit rusty.

If I were you I would call Melco Tech support and make sure you have the right software and hardware combo to make it work before messing with to many setting to try to get it to work.

Thanks for the reply. I took your advice and called Melco. I talked to Lonnie, EDS3 isn't compatible with ENS, so I will have to continue to use a floppy with the EMT until I can upgrade to DS Pro.

Happy New Year!! Have a new question. Instead of trying to hook up both machines, how do I hook up the EMT instead of the EMC?

Hook the computer to a switch or hub (you can buy it at Amazon for under $25 http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-EZXS55...0812759&sr=1-1 )
Then run an ethernet cable from the back of the EMT to the switch.
You can use one of the other 3 ports left over for hooking the computer to the internet as well as well as another computer or two.
I have an 8-port switch which all my computers and equipment go through.

If your computer has a diskette drive, you can also save the design to disk as an EXP and run it on the EMT from the disk then you won't need the switch.

Not to be dense, but do I go through the starlan board or my ethernet card to the hub? Do I use a regular ethernet cord from the hub to the machine? I have the crossover cable that is on the EMC. Do I need another crossover cable- out from computer to hub, hub to machine?

If you use a hub or switch (I suggest a switch) you will no longer need crossover cables (don't throw it away though, they do come in handy.) Regular CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 will work. You can pick them on eBay for much less than retail stores. Always order cables a couple feet longer than what you need.
