  • XT Shutting Off at Random . . .

Yesterday I was sewing a 36,000 stitch design. Around halfway through, the trimmer mis-trimmed and moved to the next positon approximately 2 inches away at which point the thread of course snapped. I hit the stop button so I could rethread the needle, but instead of it stopping (yes I hit the stop button, not the emergency stop button), the XT stopped with the needle down and my computer screen grayed out just like it does when the XT is powered down. The computer responded fine, except there was no XT loaded in the OS. After a few moments of swearing, I powered down the XT, closed the OS and restarted the OS, then powered up the XT which started up fine. I needed to retrace my design to the point of interruption and was able to save my piece. Anyone ever have this happen? Why would this happen? The XT ran fine the rest of the day. I have a battery backup so it wasn't a power outtage. The power button was still on so it wasn't accidentally shut down. Very weird.

Is your computer on the same battery backup. If it is then the problem is with the machine. I had a power outage last week, down for 13 hours. It was an Edison power failure and caused 2 of my battery backups to go bad. I realized the first one right away, because I had no power from it at all. The second one was intermittent. It happend twice over a 5 day period. Machines (4) and computer running off of that one shut down and repowered up on their own.

I have had a machine power off with a Y error. Neddle getting stuck down in a really thick piece of garment. Nothing to do but restart. Thank heavens for power fail rescue.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, the PC and the XT's are on the battery backup system. Nothing else. Weird that it only happened to one XT and the needle did get stuck in the needle down position. No error message. It just went off, but the power light was on even though the XT was not. Battery and PC and other XT just fine. There was no power outtage. Other than the cold temperature, the weather was sunny and nice. Just a fluke? Any techs want to take a stab at this one?

BTW, Merry Christmas and happy 2009 to everyone.
