  • How can we use a patterned fill?

I am hoping that someone has a better grasp on Design Shop then I do, and can answer a question for me.

I have been digitizing in other software for some 15 years.

I have always been able to use and create "pattern fills"

This is NOT the simplified function in design shop of setting the partitions and their order.

it is using a graphic line to set the needle drops.
example a herring bone pattern or brick pattern or gentle wave ect... all would be repeated across the fill area.

I have a .jpg of the type of fill pattern if someone would be so kind to look at it and see if the answer is to just continue to do this in my other software and import it to finish in DS.

I would like to be able to do it in DS.

    Jerome,

What version of DS do you have? Pro+ is the highest.

If the answer is simple enough to post, I would also like to know this information. Thanks!

For how to do pattern fills, look in the Help files, "Search" for Pattern fills. A full explanation is there and what is available in the different versions. It is quite easy to do.

                Rod Thanks for your responce.

I have refered to the help before however I am no further then I use to be.

the Help file refers to "clickin on the TIled toolbar button."

                I have no such button.
I have all the tool bars turned on and no tiled tool bar anywhere.

I am using the latest version of DS Pro+ " I just received it from Melco last week.

I am at a stand still.

I have reinstalled the software. no diff.

and my program does show DS Pro+ is installed.

If you really think that you don't have DS Pro+ running, then it is probably the dongle that is at fault. Each disk has the full blown program and it is the dongle that limits what we can use.

You might look in the manual for a feature that is only in DS Pro+ and not in the lesser versions and see if you have that feature. If not, or maybe if yes, I'd call Melco and talk to someone in tech support for softwear. They may be able to help you.

                      Dan,

Do this...create a complex fill ....say, about a 4" circle so that it is the only thing we are dealing with in the Project list.

For the Split & Tiled toolbar icons to show up , you must first select the element(fill, the one that you just created) in the project tree and then left click on the "Insert Outline" icon on the toolbar.

Now, on the toolbar, an icon will hi-lite that indicates "Insert outline" when you place your cursor over it. This will be right next to the "Complex Fill" icon. Left click on this. ONLY after doing this will the "Split & Tiled" icons appear on the tool bar....not before.

If you just select "Split" only one image will be added to the fill. If you select both "Split and the Tiled" icons together, then it will tile the image across the entire fill.

The immage you select from the "Custom Shapes" drop down menu icon on the toolbar will allow you to select an image from several different catagories. The picture and file I sent to you was from the "Pattern" catagory. After selecting one of this items, then left click and drag this image on your fill to the size you want it to be and release then left click again to create it on you fill

Watch your tool bar carefully as you left click on the "Insert Outline" icon and you should see a couple of other icons hi-lite. the "Split" icon looks like a tree with out leaves. The "Tiled" icon is hard to describe...kind of looks like little odd shaped cells in a square box.

Let me know how this goes...

                        Thanks

my lack of knowledge nothing more...

                        I will play with this.

I had been selecting the wrong tool.
I knew it had to be something simple...

But I could not see it.

Ahaaaa....knew we would eventually get there!!!

I haven't found a more user friendly digitizing sofeware than DS. DS PRO+ is a pretty powerful program and is capable of doing some pretty neat stuff....

Let us know what you think after you play with this a bit.....
