Viewing EPS Files

Can anyone tell me why DS Pro + shows me a preview of an eps file but when I open the file the image is not there. All I see is a black empty box.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I have found that when an eps file won't open in DS, I then save it to the desktop and open it from there in DS....haven't a clue why it works , but it does most of the time....
