  • Windows encounters a problem message.

I have been using Design Shop Pro for a few weeks now. Couple of problems that are easy to work around but would welcome advice if there is a fix.

    1) Occasionally when I go back to rework a file, I get a message from Design Shop that it was unable to save the file. When I close Design Shop then reopen the file, I have been able to save.

Similar, twice when I opened a project Design Shop was unable to open the underlying bitmap. I got around this my manually inserting the bitmap.

    2) Most times when I go to the File menu and try to load a recent project from the list of recent projects at the bottom of the File menu, I get the Windows message (XP) that the system has encountered a problem which then shuts down Design Shop. Selecting "Open" from the File menu and navigating to the file myself has never caused this problem.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like a memory issue. DesignShop runs better with lots of memory (at least 1gb)
If you aren't sure how much your system has. Click START, right click my computer and click the general tab. It will say at the bottom.
Or you can go to crucial.com and let it scan your system and it will give suggestions if you need more memory and how much.
It won't hurt to do both and let me know.

This computer is the same one I use to create animations and edit video (both which take large amounts of RAM). It is an XP machine, dual core, 2gb RAM and uses a Geforce 8800 video card. I was told at time of purchase that this particular version of XP cannot recognize more than 2 gb RAM, but crucial.com seems to think it can recognize 3-3.5 gb.

I did have to turn off hardware acceleration of the video as it was doing the same thing with Windows encountering a problem.

Windows XP supports up to 4gb of memory but it depends on the motherboard configuration so it may be limited to only 3gb of memory. If you have 2gb in it now, that should be plenty to run DesignShop.
You might want to try uninstalling (then reboot the computer) and reinstalling DesignShop to see if that helps.

I'm get the a similar error, just started happening after working successfully for 1 year. And the crazy part is that I just added memory, from 2Gb to 6Gb!
I sometimes can open a file, sometimes not. The error says "Design Shop has stopped working and must shut down", and closes. Sometimes I get as far as the first edit and it starts redrawing and redrawing until the same error message opens and it shuts down.
Do I need to adjust some memory ram settings. Any ideas?
