does any one know weather the new version of ds that is coming out will have the ability to take a jpeg, or tiff, photo and change it to a vector file?

I understand you can do that in photoshop illistrator... does anyone know if you can do change a jpeg/ or rasp file into a vector in photo shop element?

or what program would you recommend to accomplish this with out the cost of photo illustrator.

You can download Freehand for free it is a vector program.Adobe Illustrator is also an option,Photoshop is a raster based program. You should be able to trace your artwork in DS by just inputing your points just like digitizing.Aonther option is using the "Vector Doctor" I have never used his services but I have heard nothing but good things about him.You could also use Corel Draw.

If you mean Macromedia Freehand (way back originally it was Aldus Freehand) that is not and never has been a free program. It was competition to Illustrator and for years was 'the' ultimate vector based Macintosh program for graphic work.
Unfortunately, through a series of corporate buyouts, it ended up under the same ownership of Illustrator-and was immediately killed. NO support, no tech help, it was buried. I'm one of the last remaining diehards-I will run Freehand until I give up computers...because it still runs circles around illustrator.
Unless someone is running a free 'bootleg' version or the name has been stolen by some other program...you won't find it anywhere. Those of us that still have it, Freehand 10 was the last version released...and I am STILL learning new tricks with it every month.
ALL my artwork is created in freehand and then exported to Flexisign if I need special effects, or as a jpeg into Designshop to move my logo work around. In a matter of minutes I can create logos that takes hours in design shop...point by point by point...instead of true vector work that freehand gives me...
if you CAN find a working version of Macromedia Freehand-grab it and I wish you well...
