  • "Trimming" shapes.

I cannot seem to find what I am looking for, and hope that this is something that can be done.

Is there a way to trim shapes when you create them? What I mean is say I digitize an oval, but want the center hollow. How can this be done? I seem to be running into a problem with too many layers of stitching on occasion. I can get around this by designing a vector first, then digitizing the vector, but was hoping it could all be done in one software.

I currently use Design Shop Pro+.

    Thank You in advance.

Yes you can insert a hole into the complex fill. Select the object then go to insert/complex hole and click on that then you can digitize the hole into the complex fill. Or you can select the object and go the the icon next to the complex fill icon on your tool bar if you have that toobar displayed.

Do you want just the ouline of an oval, or an oval shape with a different 'hole' in side it?
You can create 'ovals' as just an outline easily-they are included with basic fonts as a 'design' font in your database-I haven't got the book with the listings but they are in there-you just use the correct key or key combination to get them.
Or, go into 'artwork' off the tool bar and you get a drop down menu with shapes in it-find 'oval' and make it the size you want-then if it isn't in a 'column' click in the properties menu to 'change element type' to a single line or complex line and set your width of the outline itself, without a fill pattern.

Thanks to both of you very much for your responses. Both of these methods will treat me well in the future!
