  • Dakota Design Question

We recently purchased an Amaya XT and with it came the Dakota Collectables CD. When we tried to test the machine and sew out some designs the outline of the designs do not line up with the design and there where gaps. After attending the Melco training class the instructor told us we would need to adjust the design in Design Shop. Are these poor designs or is it something we’re doing wrong? I find it hard to believe that we would need to edit every design in order for it to sew out correctly.

    Thank you,

It is all in the hooping as far as registration goes.I am very suprised that was not covered in your class. We had the same problems and after we learned how to hoop correctly everything sews out very well.

If I could, I'd like to express my 1.5 cents worth. What kind of fabric are you stitching on? What kind of backing are you using? Are you using enough backing? have you adjusted the design or is it still stock off the disk? I have used many of the Dakota designs and haven't had any problems with them. Which design is causing problem?

        Guys,
Keep this in mind when using Dakota Collectible designs...
DC has been in business for many years and I'm sure has turned over many employees just like any business.
Although these designs are supposed to be sewn out with decent results, that's not to say they are all going to be digitized the same with reference to the digitizer or even the software that digitized them.
Technology gets better everyday so it stands to reason that the newer designs might sew out better than those that are 20+ years old.
With that said, I'll bet Vegas' problem is stemming from hooping or backing issues.

Companies that do designs are going to make it usable for general purposes. It would be impossible for them to make a design that will stitch perfect on all fabrics. We need to know how to edit. I find that Dakota and Great Notions put in a lot of density and I usually have to remove some of it. I don't think the designs are bad, but will need adjustments. Every new design I use no matter where it comes from is tested on backing and then on the fabric it will be stitched on. I don't take anything for granted.

            Very true Margaret.

For most materials / items being stitched, stock designs often do require some editing in order to unsure a quality stitchout.

High stitch density seems to be a problem with many stock designs.

Sorry it took a while for me to respond and thank you all for the response. I was using cotton t-shirts to test the designs and they were stock designs from Dakota. This was happening on all of the designs. I'm going try different backing and hooping techniques as suggested.

              Thanks again.
