  • Dakota Collectibles

Hello everyone, need a little help

I have purchased the Dakota Collectibles 2007 and when I load the designs into the amaya os the colors are always completely off. I have been reseting the colors one at a time.

Is there a better way? Something that will convert the colors? They are in CND format.

    Thanks in advance

You might want to contact Dakota and see if you can trade your cnd collection in for a collection in ofm. The colors will load with the design. I believe all other formats will not retain the thread colors and you will have to use the color list in the book. Good Luck!

I know they have their complete collection in ofm but they may not have the smaller collections (e.g. Treasure Chest).

The format will work fine but cnd does not retain thread colors like ofm will--a real time saver!

I just open the design and then adjust the colors to my liking and then save in ofm so it retains the colors for next time. I change alot of the colors Dakota suggests anyways so even if it opened retaining their suggested colors I would probably change them half the time anyways. I also edit every dakota design because they are digitized to be bulletproof and usually need some work to get up to my standards. Depends on the design of course.

                      A solution for this one???
                      --------
A "time machine" would do the trick.
Go back in time with today's Design Shop and have all the many digitizers, who have worked for the stock design companies over the last 20 years or more, use DS and save those files as .OFM formats.
There are two type of formats for todays digitizing: "stitch" formats and "outline" formats.
.EXP files are stitch formats only containing information necessary to sew a design. Color information is not necessary because no matter what the colors are on the screen, you the operator, will choose what needles will sew and in what order.
.OFM files are outline formats that contain ALL the information necessary to GENERATE the file.
.CND files are an outline format for Melco's older software entitled EDS which was based on Window's DOS Operating System. Maybe this is why the color information does not carry over to Design Shop. (What do you say Jeff B.?)

The crazy colors you see in Design Shop are simply just the default colors in YOUR Design Shop program. You see these colors listed across the bottom of the DS screen.
Not having the colors the digitizer intended on the screen is an unfortunate part of working with stock designs.
You could, of course, with Design Shop, open up a file and change the colors to what you like and then save the file as an .OFM format. The colors will remain. However, with over 20,000 designs in Dakota's book, this would take some time.
