  • Dumb question about keeping colors

Ok, I feel like an idiot, but this is making me crazy! When I load a design that I purchased it does not keep the original colors, it uses the colors in the default pallette. How do I get it recognize the correct colors?

    Thanks!

What format are you saving it in? I save in OFM and it saves the colors.

Yes, it is fine when it is in ofm form, but I am talking when I open an exp design that I have purchased. Clear as mud?

Hi there. Different formats do different things. .ext and .dst don't open up in the colors the design needs to be. That heavens for color charts! You'll need to change the colors in DS and then save it in .ofm format to keep from always looking at an abstract.

Very clear to me. Go back to the site you purchased it from. Perhaps they have a color chart. At the very least you can save the pic and figure out what colors to use.

Rats, I figured that I would just have to go back and always in put them. That is what I have been doing! I was hoping not to. Thanks for all the responses!

I just want to make sure you understand....you would only have to set up the colors once. With your purchased design's color chart in hand, open your design and assign the colors, then save the design as an OFM. Then next time you open the ofm version, the colors will be correct. You will want to check your settings also for the needle assignment (exact match or closest match, etc.). Hope this helps.

We've been trying to trouble-shoot this problem, however, the designs we open are from the Melco Design folder in ofm. The design opens with what ever is on the color bar at the bottom of the desktop in that particular order.

We even tried opening a simple star (Red/White/Blue) but it came out something like Green/Brown etc. and equaled what the color tool bar stated.

Any suggestions? Is there a box we need to uncheck?

                  Thanks,

                  Rusty

You do not mention where the files came from but I am assuming they are Dakota/Great Notions etc. When you open it the colors are not what they should be, you have to change them then save (Save As) the file. Then when you open then they will be your color choices.

Sparklebyshell, I'm with you . . . perhaps admitting laziness as well. I have not found a simpler way to "convert" the palattes that come in the purchased designs easily. Especially Great Notions where they don't use color numbers, but rather color names. Very tedious. Maybe one day the designers will figure out a way to save the color palette so other software programs can convert them. Sort of when you create a document in Word and then open it in WordPerfect. The fonts are converted to the closest one in your PC. Seems like a pretty easy software fix idea. The very least, digitizers could save the design with a known palette like RA or Madeira so DS can set that up. Then it would at least be a bit simpler to match to colors in stock. If you come up with any new ideas, fill me in.
