• Melco LeterA

Hi,

Glad to be on the board.
Does anyone know why I would use Melco Letera. What does it do above Design Shop Pro+ ?

Also any ideas on how to install new Melco Fonts and any places you can buy them like ebay, etc?

Thanks,

You can buy font CD's from any computer retailer. (Best Buy, COMPUSA, etc.) I have a 5,000 font CD. I think it was around $40 or $50. Make sure you buy the True-Type fonts. VERY IMPORTANT!!! If it isn't true-type, it might not work. The Melco help files are very good about how to install them. As far as Melco Letera goes, that software was designed pre-Designshop (It was designed as an add-on to EDS3 and EDS4) I believe DesignShop does everything (or most) that Letera already does. Don't throw your money away.

Adding to that, there are also many free font sites on the internet - where you can download true type fonts to add to your collection

When you buy Melco fonts for DesignShop they are only good for your registered copy. We have two copies of DesignShop Pro. Fonts will only load to the one that DesignShop ID# the font is registered to.

About six months ago I discovered www.1001freefonts.com They have a huge selection of neat fonts. Best of all you don't have to subscribe to anything or give out any personal information. Just download what you want and let DS do the rest.

Thanks.

My wife loves the Melco Font called "fancy" for monogramming. But it does not come with Design Shop Pro +. I know True Type Fonts can also be used but was under the impression that the Melco Fonts would stitch out better, or with less tweaking.

I'll have to sew out some true type fonts and see how they look. I guess the only thing is there is no Font Spec. sheet with the true type fonts that tells you the font size range etc.

Thanks Again,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Melco released Sizer and Letera as tools for domestic users.

Sizer is a resizing program and Letera also had 5 fonts included.

They were released about 5 yrs ago, and although they look similar to EDSIV and Designshop, are not as powerful.

Your Pro+ software using true type fonts will allow you to do almost everything.

Cheers
