• Design registration

I can't seem to get the design registration to work. I followed the instructions on the video, position start point-left arrow & laser button, move to right side, repeat....left arrow & laser button, then laser button and target to center design. nothing happens, well it beeps but thats it, doesn't move or center. Is it supposed to beep once or twice when setting? I get 2 beeps, the reason I ask this is on video I only heard one beep *confirming it was set*.
Please help, I was hoping that this would be the cure for my crooked hooping issues. Thanks in advance. Any tech's/trainers avail in SE Ohio area?

I love this feature and use it all the time.

The laser/target should have moved the hoop to the center point between the two points you plotted with the laser/left arrow. Since you marked the first point at the start point of the design, the hoop should have "centered" to the left of the start point you intended. Did the hoop move at all? If it did, just position to the start point and you should be aligned.
Things to look for: does the design look slightly (or a lot) tilted in the O/S window? did you see an indicator on the screen after you did the laser/target that it was reloading the design? did you actually see the hoop move a little?

I hear two quick beeps after the laser/left, but I can't remember if I hear a beep after the laser/target. Sorry.

I use the laser center feature all the time too. I think you have to hold the laser button and then hit the left arrow. Then do the right side, marking that point in exactly the same way you did the left, i.e., hold thelaser light and then press the left arrow.. Then center the design with holding the laser button and then the center target button. Depending on how big you design is, on the computer screen, the design will shift and be centered on the points you have marked. The hoop does not move. I don't think it does - just the design on the screen. Watch the screen, not the hoop, to see the movement.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have done what you suggested. laser/left, move to right side, lazer/left, lazer/target. It still does nothing.
I have tried it with a design and just did a test design with only the word Melco (as shown in video). Still nothing. Could it be something not right on the machine? maybe the software didnt install correctly? maybe try to reinstall?
I just dont understand why it wont work. Does the computer memory have anything to do with it? I know sometimes when I load a design to machine from DS I get a message that the machine isn't responding, retry. I just attributed that to low memory on the computer (which I could be wrong). I sure hope with the help of all you great people I will be able to use this feature!

A btw..... I LOVE this site, I have learned soooooo much from everyone here! A GREAT BIG THANK YOU goes out to you all!

I have a new machine and I have had problems with the lazer feature too. I just knew that it was not registering because I also get two beeps instead of one as in the video! but, I have found if the design does not fit the hoop it will not work, and sometimes I have to hit the lazer button and center button a few times for it to register. Hopes this helps!

Nate Moore, the trainer at Melco in Denver, wrote a really good document explaining the operation of the laser alignment feature. Call Melco service and see if you can get hold of a copy. The feature is a little complex to use at first but really does a good job once you get the hang of it.

It would be nice to see if we can get that document posted on this site.

I agree with Mary. I have tried all the suggestions and it still wont register for me.
It's probably some little thing that i'm just not understanding. Sure wish I could find the answer.

Thanks again for all that have given me their ideas.

What OS is everyone using? I have V9 and the laser line-up feature works with that. I don't think it was in V7, but I may be wrong. May this is a version related problem.

What button do you consider is the "Laser Button"???

Some folks get the Laser and Trace buttons confused.

the bottom button/the laser button, not the top left button/the trace button. Correct?

Does it have anything to do with the design size? I have tried it with designs and lettering only. Does it matter if I am going outside the hoop limits (to set it for registration)? I feel there is just some small thing im not understanding thats stopping me from making this work. Hoping that my machine doesnt have a malfunction.
This is a important action that I want to be able to use. Like i said in first message, I have problems getting things in hoops straight and centered.
Thanks all for replying, hope the answer to this comes soon. Would be wonderful to hoop and sew (after setting registration)!

That's right about the laser button.
I don't think I've ever gone out of the hoop limits to align things. It seems that that coulod adversely affect things.
I know that all you have to do is have some horizontal reference, such as right through the middle of where the design is supposed to stitch. I just get the left and right points of a convenient horizontal line within the hoop limits, do the laser/target to center, THEN move the hoop to the actual start point.
I checked to be sure about the beeps. Two quick beeps after each laser/left and after the laser/target, then the hoop repositions to the horizontal center between the 2 laser/left points. If you look at the screen after the laser/target, you should see the design reloading.
I also can see the movement of the hoop because I try to exagerate where the left and right alignment points are. The way I see it, a longer reference line means a small error on my part won't matter as much.
I hope this helps. You may be onto something about being outside of the hoop limits.

Thanks all for helping out with this issue. It works now for me! Juli was on right track, it was version related...... I have V9, but I didnt have the update. I contacted Melco service tech's and they sent me the update, since I do not have internet hooked to my machine. Got it installed and YIPPEEEEEEE it works, I was sooo excited, I made the tech laugh.
Thank you all!

I am sooo happy they have these boards, helps soooo much!

Happy Sewing Everyone!
