In the operating manual it says to wipe the upper V rail clean. The picture shows putting oil on it and step 5 says to color change back and forth a couple times to move the oil evenly on the upper V rail. On the computer it says to wipe the upper V rail clean from any oil or grease. Which one is right??? We always wipe it clean and leave it like the computer says. Thank you, Bill from ILL We use Ver 7 It is on page 7-10 of the manual # 33319 Rev A

Oiling the V rail only applies to the older Big Red Amaya's.

The XT's use oil impregnated V rail slider blocks and therefore need no extra lubrication. They do need to be cleaned regardless of the model tho.......

One has to figure that the owner's manual that is in the software/computer is meant for the machine that was being released at the time the software was being released.
Hence, if your version of software if newer then that of your machine, chances are there could be some differences.
It is at times like these that you should consult your tech. He or she will be able to explain what details apply to your situation and other information might be applicable for you that you can't find in any manual. (Like what other embroiderer's do in the "real world".)
There are some embroiderers who are still running there early model machines with software from that era and Melco has made changes that would improve their machine's performance and/or longevity. If those folks don't check in with Melco or their tech from time to time, they will be missing out.
My point here, rely on your tech for good information. If your tech won't talk to you, get a new tech.

Just a Side Note: there are some XTs with the BRASS V-Rail Bushing Upgrades. The best way to tell is to look at the Bushing. It will be either a dirty brown Nylon or Brass. Only the Brass gets Oil.
