  • Needle bar stuck down

I was stitching out a design when I heard my Amaya XT make a clanking sound twice. I hit the Estop. I restarted the Amaya and it trys to start up but makes a noise and the lights go off then the lights come back on and it makes a noise and goes off again. Something is jammed or broke. The only thing I see is there is a thread between the needle bar and the hole the needle bar goes up and down thru. Could the thread jam the Amaya up? One thread? I have tried turning the shaft to raise or lower the needle but it will not move. I am up to date on lubrication for the needle bars. Any ideas as to what might be the problem.
    Thanks, Mike

    Mike,

The answer to your question is yes. I have seen frayed thread somehow work it's way onto the needle bar and get sucked inbetween the needle bar and the bushing and it almost feels like it is welded together.

Both times I have experienced this with customers machines, it required the needlecase to be removed and a drift punch to dislodge the needle bar from the bushing.....

Luckily I was stitching on needle 1 and was able to take the laser cover off. I turned the shaft while I pushed down on the pushrod and was able to get the shaft to turn. The sound it made sounded like metal to metal. I was able to get it lose but I believe there is more to it than just a thread lodged in the bushing. I put the laser cover back on and was able to restart the machine and it reset. I went to Tools then to Maintance then Head Timing and Spin Hook. It spun but did not sound good. I then moved the needle case to needle 2 and it clicked loudly as it moved and then spun the hook and it sounds ok. I tried all needles and 1 and 16 don't sound good at all. 2 to 15 sound normal. The Amaya has in the past clicked every now and then when changed colors. When the Amaya was new I had to have the number one take up lever replaced because they did not put the little rivot in it where the thread runs thru and the thread cut thru the plastic lever. When I move the needle case from needle 1 to 2 it makes a sound like something is rubbing. On needle 16 it makes a sound like it is hammering on something. The rest of the needles sound ok.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
