My XT is behaving badly. It goes to stich a design and takes 2 slow stiches and stops. T he error message says stopped for thread break. We have changed needles, thread, bobbins, done the procedure for hook timing adjustment and it still does the same thing.Any suggestions for what to try next?

That's a strange problem because the thread break sensor doesn't kick in until the machine ramps up to normal sewing speeds.
Are you certain that it's only TWO stitches before it stops???-The Embroidery Authority-<br /><br />\"Turning your Problems into Production.\"<br />Ed Orantes<br />504-258-6260

Yes, the machine moves to the correct needle and location, and very slowly stitchs 2 stitches, like at less than 1 stitch per second. Then it stops and jumps back to center without trimming- which pulls the fabric. The message is "stopped for thread break.

Have you tried another design,
we had this happen when a file was the problem.
reworked the file and all was well.

also, besides the wheel being down-is the THREAD coming out the center between the two wheels? I've had thread 'breaks' with no reason and then looked up and saw the thread wasn't between the rollers-it was beside them...must have moved it when I was rethreading or something.
Also, carefully use your fingers and turn the silver rod behind thread, just a half turn-if it won't turn, don't force it. Sometimes it just needs a nudge to fix the sensor in there. Don't know why or what happens, but it works!

OK, problem solved. A call to Melco tech support. He suggested that I turn off the machine, then go to Tools, Options, Ethernet and check the box "force download," and then turn the XT back on. This apparently dumps the old leftover commands that may have been corrupted. It worked! My only complaint is as my daughter unfortunatly says "WTF!" That is the stupidest name "Force Download??" and its in the stupidest place where I will NEVER remember it if this happens again. Anyhow, I had a power outage a few days ago and that probably messed up the commands that were lurking there. I never thought about it. So thanks for all the suggestions! May the Force be with you!

People, when Gregory said to "rotate" the Thread Break Sensor, do not rotate it completely around--just rock it back and forth slightly and gently. There are tiny Pizio crystals (sorry, I am not sure of the spelling) in the ends. There are also some very tiny hard rubber ballbearings which have a constant pressure on them and can get flat spots over a period of time. This causes the sensor not to be as responsive. You gently rock the sensor back and forth slightly to move those little ballbearings to a new position so the sensor works better. Do this very slightly and gently.
