Bought a Windows 7 computer to run my (new to me) Amaya XT and the updated software. Tried the Vista version on my Vista computer and with both computers, both softwares getting the message "Ethernet communications did not start correctly, restart computer." Have been on the phone with Melco and they can't figure it out either. (They said it can't be the cable because startups not getting far enough to see the cable--but I tried a new one anyway) Any ideas???

Run DesignShop in Windows XP mode within Windows 7. Windows 7 has been buggy and Melco hasn't released a patch for it yet.
It's really too bad Melco doesn't have a Linux, UNIX, or MAC version of DesignShop

This is a post from last year from Rod, may help you (find it by doing a search here 'vista problem'.

In your first post, you ask.........Please help! Also does anyone experience problems with Design SHop running on a computer with Vista.

Visa....not very popular....it does still have it's issues....and yes, other folks do have issues with Visa.

Try this....."Right Click" on the 3D icon in the toolbar and uncheck the "Hardware Acelleration" function. I have seen many times where this feature is interferring with DS/OS operations. It has someting to do with the video cards etc.....worth a try....unless you are going to run some highend video games on your computer, this feature is not needed.....

If I may make a suggestion.....this is a process of elimination. I would suggest that you load your software in a different computer that is not Vista if at all possible and see if the problems still persist..

Also, make sure that all firewalls and/or virus programs are disabled prior to installing the OS/DS software. Also, Make sure that OS/DS is the LAST programs loaded. Loading other programs such as AI or Corel Draw on top of OS/DS may interfer with it's operation as the registry may be changed/shared, etc......

As far as the trimmers are concerned, this is a complex issue with a great many varibles that can affect it's function. Exit points on the column, stitch lengths, MACHINE LUBRICATION, knife condition, hook timing, Z axis timing, selector/cutter position, trimmer housing position, bobbin tension and the list goes on.....

Steve, already heard about several people here running Amaya (DS and OS) on new macs with the dual platform...I have a new MacMini that supposedly can be loaded with windows, so I may give it a try myself. Would be perfect match to do it-my graphic programs are all MAC so I could easily slide artwork from one program to the other!

My Windows 7 is running in 64 bit (although the Vista computer had the problem and it wasn't). Could that be it? Please note it's the Amaya OS that is giving me headaches (migraines, in fact), not Design Shop (haven't gotten that far...)

Mabybe the ethernet port on the amaya is bad. If you have something else that runs with ethernet does it work? Perhaps try connecting the 2 computers via the ethernet cable.

That was what I was saying. Eliminated the AOS totally by trying to connect your 2 computers via the ethernet cable. If they connect, then it proves the ethernet cable is not the problem and that the problem lies in the amaya machine, not the computer. Maybe it is the physical port on the amaya that has gone bad.

If you are connecting direct computer to Amaya you may need to have a ethernet "crossover" cable. they look the same. I had a simular problem when I move my Amaya to another room.

                Just a thought.

                  Knehmer,
The problem you are having is not related to the network card or cables. The Melco techs are correct that the program is not getting that far. At the moment your AOS cannot get its network interface to talk to you network card. These AOS network interface uses drivers that are installed along with the program. The fix is to get the drivers installed and everything configured correctly, then network communications will start up and run.

I would have a few questions.
                  - Do you have one network card in your computer or two, with one dedicated to AOS.
                  - Did you check under the Tools menu in the network configuration and make sure the correct network card for AOS is selected?
                  - You say you are using the updated software on Windows 7 and the Vista version on the Vista machine. Which versions exactly?

I have fixed this problem on several XP and Vista computers. The best place to start would be to uninstall AOS, then have the technicians at Melco help you manually remove all copies of the two driver files, W32N50.dll and PCANDIS5.sys and testart the computer. If you are using a dedicated network card go into Control Panel and check the configuration of the networ card for unneccessary network bindings etc. Reinstall AOS and when you start it up go into the network configuration property page and select the correct network card in the combobox. Exit AOS and restart.

Hopefully at that point the communications starts correctly and the machine will come on line. Once AOS starts without the network error message you can troubleshoot problems with cables and other components.

                  Good luck

I agree with FME540 above. I am running Windows 7 with V9 without any problem and have been sinc it's release. I have an internal NIC card attached to a hub (which is set up as a switch only) and that communicates to the Amayas. I also an internal wireless adapter which connects to a router in another room which communicates to the internet. Both are configured for their respective uses.

Thanks, FME for the advice. I'll wait til tomorrow (obviously since no ones at Melco on Sunday) but shall suggest your thoughts about the drivers with Melco tech--they were at a loss as to what to do next. My network adapter does not show up in the AOS at all (on either computer). I'd run down and try it now but I fear this head cold hasn't got me thinking straight so do't want to remove any drivers myself in case I can't remember what I did.
