  • mis trims

I am having trouble with trims, the machine mistrims about 30% of the time. The trim leaves 1/8 to 1/4 inch of thread about 1/3 of the time.
Do I need to replace the cutter blades?
sometiems does not trim at all and pullls the thread until it breaks doing color change.

This is really a question for Rod or John, because of their wealth of knowledge and training, but I would start by taking off the needle plate and cleaning under there very well, and then oiling the trimmer mechanism as recommended under settings>timers>4 million

Remember that if the machine doesn't trim and the thread gets pulled to one side until it breaks, there's a great chance that the needle that was bent sideways now needs to be replaced.

Have your machine looked at by a tech.
I really doubt it's your cutter blade(s) as they are rarely the cause of trouble. (Depending on how old the machine is.)

Which machine do you have? Amaya, Amaya XT, etc... It makes a difference as they have different cutting systems.

Just the pressor foot setting alone can account for a lot of mis trims...bring it down to squash the fabric, then back up 1. Worked for us while we had our Big Red.
ALso had the tech readjust the pressor foot-it had hit the hoop edge a couple times and had 'moved' up the shaft without us realizing it. Trying to set it all the way down it wasn't squashing the fabric-just barely even touched it. Once he reset it, worked great from that point on.
NEver had to replace the cutter blade in 5 years...

            CMack,
If the machine isn't trimming consistantly, there could be a number of contributing factors and an experienced tech chases them down one by one.
My first thoughts are that you may simply have a lot of debris trapped between the knives. If you have already cleaned this area, then the troubleshooting would have to begin.
If you do decide to purchase new trimmer blades, know that they are going to be between $40 and $50 bucks a piece. (There's two knives)
After you install the knives, they then have to be calibrated for optimal function and to prevent premature failure and/or wear.
If you happen to install new blades and the machine trims with success, and for many years, that would be nothing short of simply "great".

            Wishing you the best.

Remove the needle plate. Goto Maintenance. Steppers - Trimmer - Start Test. Watch your fingers. Put thread in while it is cycling and see if it cuts.
