FYI....the proper way to start the OS is to first open OS on the computer and get a grey screen. Then turn on the machine. When I train folks, I always point out that it is "important" to check the E-Stop BEFORE turning on the machine.

If you forget to do this and get those WARNING beeps, do not just undo the E-Stop button. TURN OFF the machine, then undo the E-Stop and then turn the machine back on.

If the E-Stop is depressed with the machine on at initial start up, I repeat, initial start up, after getting the warning beeps, you will hit the mother board with a huge surge of current which may damage some of the components on it.

This is WHY the orange tag was hanging from the E-Stop that said "Important" when it was shipped from the factory. My machines still have these tags hanging from them as a reminder. I also wrote my machine serial number on the back of the tags so I don't have to look at the side of the machine to see what it is.

I too was taught to start the os, turn the machine on etc. However, since I bought a new computer with vista 64 bit in order to get ds9 to send the machine to the computer I have to open ds, turn the machine on, then use ds9 to send the design to the machine, which opens the os. I have talked with tech support about this and their reply was "I never said you had to open os before starting the machine." So that is what I've been doing. Am I doing damage to my machine by doing this? Thanks!

What you are doing has nothing to do with the E-Stop, per say....as the OS can be opened thru DS or on it's own, but the same thing would apply as in the previous post about having the E-stop depressed when OS is trying to open....

So the answer to your question is ,no, as long as the E-stop issue is not in play.

                  CJK,

If you can's start OS before the machine is on, can you turn off the machine after OS is started and then turn it back on? If you can not, how do you do a force download?

Steve, I'm sorry, what I was referring to was not being able to send a design to my machine using ds. What I meant was that I was taught to open ds, then the os, then turn on the machine. However if I it that way I am not able to send a design to the machine using ds. I think I actually posted to the wrong column. Sorry for the confusion.
