  • Awaiting the Arrival of our Reconditioned Amaya!

Our 2005 reconditioned Amaya is on its way, today!

We're excited and nervous to get it up and running. Does anyone know the computer specs for the OS? I'm having anxiety that our computer may not handle it.

I'm looking forward to getting to know other Amaya users. It appears there is a lot of help on this forum!

    Thanks, Laura

Use at least 512mb of RAM. I have 1gb of RAM and have no problems. I also suggest a minimum video card of 128mb as well so you can see the colors properly but the more memory, the better.
If you need a new computer, try Dell. (I have 3 of them.)

Hi Laura, How your new Amaya doing? any problems setting it up? I am waiting for my new Amaya to arrive on Monday. I have a EMT10T and have been in business for over 6 yrs. so thought it was time to expand. Be sure to post any problems or questions you have with your machine so I wont have to ,LOL

        Hi Laura & Carole:

We just bought a reconditioned machine and awaiting the arrival of it. We are very excited to expand our business as we have home machines now.
Can anyone tell us what we should be getting in the way of bobbins and needles so we are ready for the machine when it arrives. We have no clue what weight of bobbin thread is best or what needles work best....
Would love any input you all have for us new Amaya users.

        Thanks!

          TinaK,
Melco usually gives you a starter kit that is pre-packaged by MelcoMart. (As well we many reminder where to buy more supplies when that runs out.)
Is is just enough to last about a month or so. Usually includes ARC thread, bobbins, backing, needles, and probably a Dakota disk.
I have found that Coats poly bobbins run best. As far as regular thread, you will find most people here run ARC, Maderia, Robinson Anton, or Ackermann. It really depends on what brand you like best and where your local distributor is. I don't use ARC because UPS ground is 5 days transit so when I need a color in hurry, that won't work for me.

That is great news now I can quit worrying for a bit. I already use Madeira Poly as it was the best thread we could find around here for a decent price.

            Thanks for the information Steve!

Hi all. When I had "Big Red" I used sideless bobbins that I bought from LongCreekMills.com. They ran great, didn't cause any build up that the cardboard does, and the price was definitely right. Sideless bobbins don't work in "Ol' Smokey", so I switched to NEBS. I carry them here if you need any.

Another thread brand is SpectrumThread.com. Great colors, runs wonderful, fast shipping and great pricing. They also have needles, backings, etc.

                  Carole and Tina,

Good luck with your new machines, you'll love them. Setting it up wasn't too difficult, we just followed the CD's that came with. I did get a few starter supplies like Steve mentioned, plus I've ordered extras thru Melcomart (be sure to get on their mailing list, they have great specials!).

I've done some shirts, bags, and hats for family so far, but still haven't been able to get to the Melco training. I also have a home machine - a Kenmore Ergo 3, which is similar to the Janome 11000. I've loved it, but wanted to do larger items and hats - without having to smash them flat into the hoop, LOL.

Today, I'm trying to do a FlexFit cap - just a simple 2 word design - and I keep getting the "bobbin break" message, and a big birds nest of top thread on the underside. I've changed bobbins, cleaned under the tension thing, cleaned out the bobbin casing - still keeps breaking! Any suggestions out there? I am using the Coats and Clark cardboard sided bobbins - could that be the cause?

Well, anyway - Good luck on those new machines, and be sure to post your questions too, as we all learn lots from each other.

                  Take Care,
                  Laura

                    Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to give you an update as we got our machine today and we were very excited to get it. We didn't realize how big it was compared to our home machines...LOL Wow!
We are afraid to start it as it was damaged in shipping and am awaiting call from the tech guys so hopefully we can get it up and running soon. The Thread tree is bent so one side of it is touching the metal part along with cracks in the plastic base.
We are a little bumbed but we know it wont be to long besides it will give us a little time to learn the OS software.

                    Everyone have a great night!
