  • Front Grabber stuck BEHIND needle

On our XT we were doing a sewout sample when my son accidentally pressed the "toggle front grabbers" command. He's sure he hit it again to bring it back and then hit the "trim immediate" command. Now the front grabber is stuck back behind the needle, which is in the down position. We managed to remove the needle and the sample. Tried to do the head up command with no luck. Have turned machine off and e-stop off to try and clear memory. Currently getting the Cluster01-Head01-Z-Axis Timeout Error. I think we had this same issue a couple years ago when machine was new and went through melco support. We don't have any notes of that and have forgotten everything. Has anybody had this problem? I saw one post when I searched this discussion board, but there were no reply's for their plea for help.
    Thanks,

    George,
With the machine off or e-stop pressed, remove the needle clamp from the needle bar.
Then rotate the top shaft which will take the needle bar up. Keep rotating until the take up levers and needle bars are all in line.
Turn the machine on again or release the e-stop.
The machine should then be ok.

My hand is small so reaching up under the head and getting hold of the shaft is not a problem, turning it is. I found a jar gripper is just the thing to hold onto the shaft and turn it.
      Good luck

Thank you! Once I looked up what the needle clamp was and found I could back that screw all the way out and it would slide right off, everything came together just as you said it would! Also note that when the needle clamp did slide off, it made turning the shaft so much easier because the front grabbers were no longer impeding the turning of the shaft. Magic!
