10,000,000 stitch maintenance brush

I'm getting ready to do the 10,000,000 stitch maintenance for the first time. In the step it says to use the brush provided in the Operator's Kit to apply the EMB grease. The only brush I have is the one I use to clean the rotary hook area. Its about 6" long with a silver metal handle and poffy brush end. I checked the manual and the melco site for a picture of the brush I'm supposed to use with no luck. The Parts List for the Operator's Kit only lists one brush, Part # 861495-01. My silver handle brush doesn't have a part # stamped on it, but since its the only one I have I'm assuming that's it. I don't want to use it to apply the grease since I use it for the rotary hook area, but I want to use the correct tool to apply the grease. Can anyone describe what that brush is supposed to look like or point me in a direction on line where I can see a picture of what it should look like?

Yes that is the brush they prvided to apply the grease. Any simular brush of that size would work for applying the grease to the backside of the takeup lever cam disk.

The timers come up on 10 million for this but in my opinion it should be done twice that often....

The brush in discussion here is commonly referred to as an "Acid Brush". Simply due to the fact that the bristles are made from actual horse hair and not nylon fibers that would melt when dipping them into solvents or acids.
You can buy a bag of 10 at Home Cheepo for about a dollar. Yes, that's right, they are cheap and disposable. Unless you are talking to a horse.

Also, when I put grease on the take up lever cam, I use my finger. Personally I find the brush gets grease all over the place. You could also use a Q-tip if you have 'em.

Just make sure you're using the "POLYMER" grease for the 10 million maintenance procedure and not the multipurpose grease.

Ed, is the brush the 'plumber's flux brush' she would find in the plumbing/pipe section?
Sounds like it to me...so she can find it easier.
Reminds me to check ours and see if it needs replacing yet.

Certainly,... A plumber could brush flux on his pipe with one of these if need be. (Why does that just sound nasty?)

Of course, I was thinking she might find them in the paint brush section along with the other 52 million brushes that are available.

FYI: "Flux" is a gelatinous medium that is used to aid in the soldering process of copper pipe - commonly possessed by plumbers.

Yes, Ed...you did give that a perverted twist...LOL.
Our local hardware store always has a box of flux brushes on the counter because of the number of 'do it yourselfers' that come through. Just found we got a new one with the XT so I'm all set for now..eventually we will hit the 10 mill. maintainence cycle...someday!
slow going here...not much happening for any business at all.
