Judy,
I have found that anytime I load new software including printer, etc. I have a problem with my DS and OS. You might want to try using 'remove software' option to completely remove the McAfee. You may also have to reinstall your DS and OS as I did after a new printer. I have Windows XP and I have been told that upgrades or loading new software can overwrite some files that can affect DS and OS.
For virus, firewall, spyware, etc. I use the AT&T Security Suite. It updates itself often and so far has not caused a single problem with DS and OS. It is free if you have the AT&T DSL Extreme 6 for internet. I think it is $5 per month if you have a lower version than Extreme 6. Even at $5 per month it is still cheaper than buying Norton or McAfee new every couple of years and paying their renewals. Neither of them update as smoothly as AT&T Security Suite. I particularly like not ever having to do anything with it. The Security Suite just takes care of itself.
You can also get the AT&T 'ewire' router and both computers can share the DSL connection and both will have the same Security Suite Extreme 6. My XT computer only uses the internet to get DS & OS updates but there is confidence in knowing that Security Suite has it firewalled.
